The CMC of the WO & Sgts Mess has received several complaints with regards to children playing immediately alongside the mess accommodation. We are asking if parents could advise their children to refrain from playing so close to the actual accommodation blocks. It is understood that 'children will be children' and the noise isn’t deliberately aimed at disturbing the occupants however, those who occupy the mess, would appreciate their co-operation. There are an abundance of open areas and playparks for children to enjoy and play safely within easy reach of the SFA’s. Your help and assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.

DIO Service Family Accommodation (SFA) Communications Update _27 March 2026

Let’s get building: MOD set to start construction on first military homes in a decade

Good homes will be placed at the heart of UK military family life as the MOD is set to begin the construction of 265 new military family houses at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, the first such development in almost a decade. Families living in the area will see a range of new, modern apartments, houses and bungalows begin to be built at Carterton near the air base in the coming weeks, once formal approval is received.
In addition to the building of the houses at Brize Norton, DIO will also be refurbishing another 2,000 homes across the UK in the next 12 months alone, building on the 1,250 worst-condition properties already brought up to standard. This work is a step towards widening access for families who have previously not been able to benefit from a military home, with 1,000 of the refurbished houses being brought back into use for military families. This is almost double the number of previously empty homes that were brought online for families over the previous 12 months.
To read more on this, see the Defence Homes article here.

Message for Service families
We know many of you, especially those in long term relationships or with childcare responsibilities for more than 80 nights a year have been waiting a long time for clearer information about widening access to Defence housing. Thank you for your patience.
We understand how important it is for families to have clarity about their housing options, especially when it comes to making decisions about work, schooling, and other aspects of family life. This remains a priority for Defence, and we are continuing to develop the detail. The final approach will be shaped by the wider Defence Investment Plan, which will set out how Defence will spend its money over the coming years to deliver the priorities of the Strategic Defence Review, including equipment, housing, infrastructure and people. We will share further information as soon as we are able to provide clear and dependable guidance on what widening access will mean for you and your family and how it will work.

Updated security advice for families living in SFA
You will be aware of the heightened security threat to the Defence estate and personnel due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. As a result, enhanced vigilance measures are being implemented across all Defence establishments with immediate effect.
Families living in Service Family Accommodation (SFA) outside the wire are strongly advised to adhere to the following enhanced vigilance measures:
a. Reporting:
If you observe any suspicious activity, unfamiliar persons, or anything that causes concern, please report it immediately to the Police, your local Guard room or the Defence Police. In an emergency, always call the relevant emergency service on 999.
b. Secure Entry Points:
Always ensure that all doors and windows are locked when you leave your home or go to bed. Contact the National Service Centre on 0800 031 8628 immediately if locks on your doors or windows are broken.
c. Protection:
Ensure all valuable equipment and personal belongings are securely stored when not in use.
d. ID Passes:
DIO staff and Industry Partners (Amey, VIVO and Pinnacle) must wear their ID passes visibly at all times while on site. If you notice anyone without proper identification, you should challenge them to show their identification. Should you have any concerns about individuals in your area, please report this immediately either to your local welfare team, your Housing Officer, or the National Service Centre: 0800 031 8628.
e. Patrolling:
Where guard forces are present, there will be increased patrols throughout SFA areas. These patrols will be conducted randomly during both day and night to enhance security.
f. Neighbourhood Awareness:
Maintain good communication with your neighbours. Look out for each other and share any concerns about unusual activity in the area.
g. Avoid Sharing Personal Information Publicly:
Be cautious about sharing details of your location or absence on social media or with unknown individuals.
Your cooperation and vigilance are essential during this period of heightened security risk as a result of the Middle East crisis. Please remain alert and take all necessary precautions to protect yourselves, your families, and the Defence community.

SFA Waste Collection

Residents are politely reminded the local authority will not remove any items of rubbish or recycling that is outside of the appropriate bin or if the bin lid is open. If it doesn’t fit inside the receptable please either store it until the next collection or take it to the local authority domestic waste collection site, it is NOT to be brought on to Station for disposal.

Children’s garden play equipment and garden waste (mainly grass clippings) are being placed in Single living accommodation and Mess kitchen skips which should not be happening. Green waste bins are available through the local authority and arrangements should be made for the disposal of bulky items through the local authority or taken to domestic waste collection site.

Picture 1 was taken this week after the LA bin collection and picture 2 items and waste collected from around the stadium side SFA

Collecting the rubbish is not part of the units output but has been done as a one off to try and maintain the area in a respectable condition. It is our community, let’s work together to keep it clean and tidy

HomeHub makes it easier for you to raise and track repairs and maintenance requests, as well as book and manage appointments. Families can quickly manage things online without the need to call Pinnacle.

Scam awareness

We’ve recently been made aware that there has been a rise in incidents of scam callers contacting families, impersonating Pinnacle and other DIO contractors. These callers are asking families for personal details including: home address, property type and home ownership status. There have also been reports that some callers become aggressive when being challenged by families.
If you receive an unexpected call claiming to be from Pinnacle or a DIO contractor like Mears, VIVO or Amey, we urge you to do the following:
Do not share personal information
Ask for the caller’s name and team
Check for appointment confirmations or official contact numbers
You can report suspected phone scams in the UK to Action Fraud online at www.reportfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Forces Additional Needs and Disability Forum (FANDF) survey

Do you, or a family member, have an additional need and/or disability? If the answer is yes, please share your experience accessing health and wellbeing support.
The FANDF have created a survey with the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association (SSAFA) to understand the experiences of service personnel, their partners or children who have additional needs and/or disabilities.
Results of the survey will be shared with policy makers and experts across Defence, health, and local Government, to help improve policies, support and care.
If applicable, you can take the survey here, it should only take ten minutes to complete. The survey closes on 27 March 2026.

Induction hobs

Induction hobs have been introduced into several SFA across the estate. It is important that families are aware if the property they are moving into has an induction hob, as induction-compatible cookware is required.
Families can check whether a property has an induction hob via E1132 form. This information is listed under the property details section, where the cooking facilities will appear as “electric induction”
If the property you are moving into does have an induction hob, it is important you are aware of the following helpful tips:
Stick to magnetic pans: If a magnet sticks to the base of the pan, it will work with an induction hob. Cast iron and stainless-steel pans with a magnetic base are ideal.
Avoid non-magnetic materials: Aluminium, copper and glass cookware will not work unless they have a specially designed magnetic base.
Flat is best: Use pans with flat, smooth bases to ensure even heating and optimal performance.
Size matters: Where possible, try to match the pan size to the cooking zone. Pans that are too small may not activate the hob.
Induction converter plates: If you own non-magnetic cookware, an induction hob converter plate can be used. This sits between the hob and the pan, allowing non-induction cookware to be used.
