Remembrancetide has been quiet this year. I wrote this to reflect that quiet.

A quiet Remembrance 2020

Bangs and flashes, warlike reminders
In urban gardens. All finished now.
The aroma of fireworks lingers
Cordite filling quiet streets.
No parades winding through our cities
Led by bands and marching men.
A quiet Remembrance this year.
No standard bearers colour flying
Through crowded centres with shuttered shops.
Veterans are shielded – precious to us all.
Cadets are safely distanced.
A quiet Remembrance this year.
No mass laying of wreaths this year.
We are taking our poppies in drib and drabs.
No drumhead service as on battlefields of yore.
No gatherings to sing, pray, cry.
A quiet Remembrance this year,

Remembrance was so quiet this year.

Onb Friday 12 June the Wolverhampton RBL and United Ex-service Council were to join the Mayor and the family of Adrian Anslow in the annual service to remember the Falklands war. As this has had to be cancelled I would ask our supporters to make a gesture of remembrance on this day.We will remember them.

We will remember them.
Those men who now rest far away,
Under icy stones, or burning sand.
Those who lie beneath the rolling sea,
Or do not have any grave we know.
They stood up in the mighty fray.
Faced unknown dangers without fear.
They gave their all that we might be free.
They live on in our hearts and minds
Cherished as those who have gone before.

We will remember them.
