These photos were loose in the Express & Star photo collection, so we have no name, no date, and no context, other than what appears in the photographs. Due to predicted adverse weather conditions, the Archives service will be shutting at 3pm today and will be closed tomorrow (Friday 9th January), in order to protect the safety of staff, volunteers and members of the public. Wolverhampton City Archives' Local History Fair returns next month – with residents and visitors invited to immerse themselves in the rich and varied heritage of Wolverhampton and the surrounding area.

Taking place within the historic setting of the City Archives on Saturday 11 October from 10am to 4pm, the annual event will showcase an impressive array of stalls hosted by local history societies, museums, and heritage groups.

Councillor Jeszemma Howl, Cabinet Member for Governance and Digital, said: "The Local History Fair is a chance for people of all ages to come together to explore the past, connect with local heritage groups, and discover the stories that make Wolverhampton such a vibrant and historically rich place. Whether you're a seasoned researcher, a student of history, or simply curious about our city’s past, please come along and find out more."

Admission is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. The Friends of the Archives will be on hand throughout the day, offering homemade cakes and refreshments for a small charge as part of their fundraising efforts. Read the full story by clicking the link in the comments below 👇

Due to the National Recovery Walk taking place in and around West Park this Saturday 13th September, there will be a number of road closures around the city centre, including Waterloo Road and Molineux Street. In addition, the car park at the back of the Archives building will be closed and inaccessible from 11am until approximately 1pm on that day. Therefore, if you are intending to visit the Archives this Saturday, we recommend that you either use public transport or make arrangements to park elsewhere. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

🚶🏾‍♂️ 🚶🏾‍♀️ 🚶 It's the National Recovery Walk 2025 at West Park this Saturday! Taking place from noon-5pm, it promises a vibrant, family-friendly day filled with live entertainment, community stalls, and a powerful show of solidarity for those on the journey of recovery. Entry is FREE!

Please note, some roads around the city centre will be closed from 11am until approximately 2pm on Saturday, including Park Road East between its junctions with Park Road West/Southgate and Lansdowne Road, Park Road West between its junctions with Park Road East/Southgate and Summerfield Road, Southgate, Park Avenue, Bath Avenue, Newhampton Road East between its junctions with Drummond Street and Waterloo Road, Waterloo Road between its junctions with A4150 and Jack Hayward Way Island, Jack Hayward Way between permanent HVM location and Molineux Street, Molineux Street between permanent HVM barrier location and Archives, Wulfruna Street, Cheapside, Exchange Street, Lych Gate and Lichfield Street/Queen Square between its junction with North Street and at its junction with Princess Street/Princes Square.
