It can take just 15 seconds for a young child to lose consciousness if they get tangled in a blind cord. And sadly they can die in just a few minutes.

Make your blind cord safe, secure it on a cleat hook or use a tensioner (safety devices that should come with all new blinds).

Swim safe this summer 🏊‍♀️

It’s scary to think about but drowning doesn’t happen like it does in the movies. A drowning child doesn’t splash about or cry for help. They slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed.

But, once you understand how and where drowning happens, there are things you can do to prevent it.

Protecting Your Newborn from Neonatal Herpes 💛

In the first 4–6 weeks of life, babies are especially vulnerable to infections like herpes (HSV). Here are some simple but important steps to help keep your baby safe:
👶 Hand hygiene matters – Always wash hands before touching your baby.
💋 Limit kissing – Only very close family or carers should kiss your baby.
📍 Safe kissing spots – If kissing, choose the top of the head and avoid the face (mouth, nose, eyes).
🚫 Cold sores = no kissing – Anyone with an active or past history of cold sores should avoid kissing your baby.
⚠️ Active lesions – Anyone with herpes sores (anywhere on the body) should avoid contact where possible, or practice strict hand hygiene if they are a main carer.

These small precautions can make a big difference in protecting your newborn’s health during those early weeks. 💕

‼️Water safety for teenagers and young people

Being by water is a great place to spend time with friends, but it’s important you know how to keep yourself, and your friends, safe.

Water may look safe, especially a familiar stretch of water local to you, but poor decisions around it can create a dangerous situation.

REMEMBER:
🌊 There are no lifeguards along canals and rivers to help you
🌊 It may take the emergency services much longer to reach you
🌊 Do you know what's in the water?
🌊 Do you know how deep the water is?
🌊 No matter how strong a swimmer you are, you can't prepare for cold water shock.

⚠️ Don't just be a by-stander, watch out for your mates. Tell them they're doing something dangerous, and they could get hurt.
