We're boosting local places for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). 🧒

Between 2026 and 2029, we're creating more than 600 new SEND spaces for all age groups within the borough.

That includes specialist schools, provision within mainstream schools, training hubs for over-16s and more. 🏫

The first new settings will be opening throughout the 2026 autumn term, with more to follow annually.

This will address a recent shortfall which has required some SEND students to be educated outside the borough. 🚌

It will make provision more sustainable by reducing the cost of external placements and transport to school.

By the end of 2029, our aim is that every child will have their SEND requirements met locally where that's the best option.

We'll keep you posted as new settings open, and you can see a full list of what's planned on our website.

Meet Willowby. 🐛

After 517 suggestions and 441 votes from local residents, Willowby received the most votes and is now the official name of Dinton Pastures' willow caterpillar.

The living willow sculpture has recently been restored by our Rangers, volunteers and local students, helping preserve a much-loved feature of the park that provides habitat for wildlife.

Congratulations to Ben Mclachlan, who was selected at random from those who suggested the winning name. Ben has won a special family visit to Dinton Pastures, including a boat hire session, the chance to meet the Rangers and a unique willow tree grown from caterpillar cuttings.

Have you seen Willowby at Dinton Pastures Country Park over the summer? Let us know in the comments. 🌿

A brand new way to move has landed in Wokingham 🧘‍♀️✨

Wokingham Leisure Centre has opened a new 12-bed Reformer Pilates studio, bringing one of the biggest fitness trends around right here to the borough. 🙌

Never tried it before? Reformer Pilates uses specialist equipment to add resistance and support as you move, helping to build strength, improve flexibility, balance and mobility.

And you definitely don’t need to be a Pilates pro! There are classes for different experience levels, from getting to grips with the basics through to a more challenging workout. 💪

With more than 30 classes running each week, there are plenty of chances to give it a go.

Many people were affected by the pandemic. Some lost loved ones. Others supported family, friends, neighbours and their communities through difficult times. 💚

Last week, people from across the borough came together to open the Covid Memorial Woodland near California Country Park.

Created by residents, volunteers, schools, community groups, charities, partners and council teams, the woodland provides a place to remember, reflect and spend time in nature. 🌳

More than 6,700 trees have been planted across the site and, over time, the woodland will grow into an important place for both people and wildlife.

We're proposing to move Bearwood Primary School in Sindlesham to new purpose-built premises at Spencers Wood. 🏫

You can have your say in an informal consultation now, with a formal consultation set to follow next month.

The move, which would happen in September 2028, would address an imbalance in primary school places across the borough.

They're fully subscribed in the Shinfield area but under-subscribed in other areas, which isn't financially sustainable. 💷

Schools get funding from the Government per pupil, but running costs stay the same even with fewer pupils.

The Spencers Wood site will offer 210 mainstream places and a further 14 for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). 👧

Subject to planning, we'd then convert the existing Bearwood site into a special school with 80 SEND places, to open in 2029.

This will also support our multi-million pound SEND investment programme to create more places within Wokingham Borough.

Our executive will make a final decision on the proposal in December.
