Yesterday the recruits spent the day reflecting on the realities of war. This consisted of various senior ranking individuals delivering briefs on their experiences of combat, alongside a trip into London to the National Army Museum where each section delivered a brief on a specific conflict they had researched. Looking forward, they are conducting more ranges this week as build up to an important shoot which is the Annual Combat Marksmanship Test. The week finishes with the recruits welcoming families and friends to Pirbright on Saturday.

Last week Caen Squadron deployed on Exercise First Encounter. Still in the crawl phase of the crawl, walk, run model, the pace of exercise was slow. The recruits spent four days out in the field furthering the foundational skills that allow a soldier to operate effectively in the field. This sets the base whereby all this skills will be further developed and tested over the remaining two field exercises.

Upon return from their long weekend, the focus shifts back to camp with a stress on ranges and learning about the Law of Armed Conflict.
