This week marked the start of the GCSEs for year 9 students, Mrs Smith & Mr Weale have been visiting many classes and overall we are really pleased with the level of work and commitment being shown.

Book looks and more climate walks will be taking place, supported by positive conversations with many students about their option subjects and some great feedback from staff!

Well done Year 9- keep going, you have already obtained a massive 2780 achievement points this week, with MFL distributing the most and forms JQU & SHR reaching the highest over five days.

Winston PE prefects have started a new initiative this year to introduce Year 6 students to Winston Churchill PE! They are known as the 'Activators'.

We completed our first session at Sythwood Primary School to a group of brilliant and enthusiastic pupils who will be joining us in September. We started with a 'get to know' us activity which kept them moving, working collaboratively and also developed their literacy skills.

Mrs Kovic is very proud of the PE student volunteers who have put in their own time to plan and prepare the sessions, and we can't wait until we return next week!

📱A 50% reduction in behaviour incidents related to mobile phones.

✅ That’s just one of the positive outcomes from a Woking secondary school after going ‘phone free’ for a year.

🎓 Lisa Townsend PCC visited The Winston Churchill School to see how students are keeping their phones with them in a secure pouch that is locked upon arrival and unlocked at the end of the school day, creating a clear physical boundary and removing any potential phone-related distraction.

👩‍🦰 Lisa noted the benefits of adopting the scheme to safeguard children from online harm and to reduce anti-social behaviour.

We are absolutely delighted with the number of students who got involved with the MFL Eurovision Competition and enjoyed reading all of their lovely contributions!

All who participated have received achievement points in celebration of their engagement with languages outside of the classroom.

On Thursday 21st May the Music Department held our final Spring Recital of the year, which this time featured some of our talented Year 7 students. A real range of music and styles was on show as students took to the Performance Space stage to perform their chosen pieces. They were cheered on by a fantastic audience of friends and family and each student performed superbly.

The Music Department would like to congratulate all of the students who have taken part in one of our recitals this Spring. With over 120 students from Years 7-11 taking part in our 4 events, it has been a record breaking year. We now look forward to our Young Musician of the Year competition in June and our Summer Concert on 9th July, before finishing the academic year with our annual Music Tour to Europe.

Director of Music and Lead for Primary Liaison

All our fantastic finalists baked their way through 3 tough rounds to make it to the top 3, and what a journey it has been!

And the final results are:
🥇 1st Place: Charlie (9LWN)
🥈 Runner-Up: Nichole (8TMA)
🥉 2nd Runner-Up: Jason (7PCD)
We have raised money for charity and had a whole heap of fun while doing it. Well done and thank you to every single one of our bakers. A huge thank you to the year 10 Food Prefects who designed, ran and judged all the rounds!

On Sunday 17th May, 15 Winston netball players (between Year 7-10) went to watch the Netball Superleague London derby between London Mavericks and London Pulse. For most, this was a first opportunity to see live competitive netball and it was a great chance to see the pace, physicality and strategy that it takes to be a professional within the sport.

Wembley Arena was a great venue and the match day was full of a positive, competitive atmosphere! Congratulations to London Pulse who took the win after a tense 4th quarter. This won’t be our last outing and we can’t wait to go back!

Mrs Kovic and Miss De Bunsen.
