The Parish Council has received the following information from Lewes District Council
------------------------------------------------
Yesterday we launched the latest stage of consultation over the Lewes District Local Plan.

02/09/2025

There's one week left to share your views on proposals to improve recycling across Lewes district ♻

Lewes District Council is looking at moving to fortnightly refuse collections from November 2025, with the aim of increasing household recycling in the district.

Recycling collections would stay fortnightly and food waste collections would stay weekly.

This system, called alternate weekly collections, would apply to most homes in the district. It is a proven way to encourage households to recycle more of their waste.

Most councils in England have already moved to alternate weekly collections, including all other district and borough councils in East Sussex.

We would like to know what impact the changes might have on your household.

There are also several options available to you now, which could help you with the proposed changes.

These include:

- food waste collections
- extra recycling bins
- a bigger refuse bin
- weekly clinical waste collections e.g. for adult incontinence waste products
assisted collections, and more.

To find out more and give your feedback, visit lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/AWC by Monday 8 September 2025.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback with us so far!

Thank you to those who helped with the community litter pick on Saturday and kindly removed all of this rubbish 👍😃. Our roads and verges will be looking so much better for it.

Please look out for future litter pick dates that you may be able to help with, so that it doesn't always fall to the same people to keep our community litter-free 🙏.

Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council have announced a joint public consultation inviting East Sussex residents to have their say on proposed boundary changes set out by Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC).

The move comes amid growing concern over BHCC’s plan to take over areas within Lewes district as part of the government’s Local Government Reorganisation. If the city council’s proposals are supported by the government, Lewes district residents in Kingston, East Saltdean, Peacehaven, Telscombe, and Newhaven would become residents of Brighton & Hove.

An online petition objecting to the Brighton expansion bid has already been signed by over 3,500 residents.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, said:
“I know I speak for many councillor colleagues and residents when I say that the city council’s approach in recent weeks leaves a great deal to be desired. To announce a plan to take over parts of a neighbouring district without any prior consultation is not acceptable.

“I’m clear that residents must decide their own future and that’s why we’re launching our own consultation today and encouraging everyone to make their views known.”

Local Government Reorganisation will see new unitary councils established across East and West Sussex, including Brighton & Hove. A unitary council provides all the public services that are currently split between district/borough councils and the county council.

Following the consultation, East Sussex authorities will submit a business case to the government in September based on the creation of one single unitary council, covering the existing East Sussex footprint.

Keith Glazier, Leader of East Sussex County Council, said:

“It is very important that the voices of the people and communities affected by these options are heard and we would encourage people to have their say and participate in the surveys.”

The survey will be open until 5pm on Monday 25 August 2025. For more information visit the link in the comments.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the Parish Council tent at Village Day, to give feedback on the facilities you'd like to see in Wivelsfield 😀.

It was great to see lots of children also giving their views about the play and sports equipment they'd like to see at the green🛝🚴‍♂️⛹️‍♀️🎾.

For those that didn't have chance to pop by, we'd still love to hear your views and encourage you to take part in our short, online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QPKZK5Y

The better the response rate, the more we can be sure that we are reflecting the wishes of the community in the equipment and facilities we progress with.

Please take 5 minutes to share your thoughts 🙏
