Witton le Wear Parish Council was formed in 2000 with the aim of serving the residents by making improvements to the village wherever possible. We are committed to:

Witton le Wear Parish Council

Following our AGM on 12th May the following Councillors have been re-elected.

Melanie Campbell

Laura Langstaff-Wood and Lynda Bentley were both co-opted as
Parish Councillors.

The following Councillors have decided to stand down and the Parish
Council wishes to thank them for their many years of service:

Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer, Witton le Wear Parish Council
Commencing January 2025
Witton le Wear Parish Council is seeking a proactive and organised individual to fill the position of Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer. This vital role supports the efficient functioning of the Parish Council in serving a rural community of approximately 500 residents within the Durham County Council area.
Key Responsibilities:
• Acting as the principal advisor to the Parish Council on its functions and ensuring compliance with statutory duties.
• Preparing agendas, attending council meetings, and producing accurate minutes.
• Managing the Council's finances, including budgeting, monitoring expenditure, and preparing annual accounts.
• Overseeing the administration of Parish Council activities and maintaining accurate records.
• Liaising with local authorities, contractors, and the community to ensure effective delivery of services.
• Supporting the Parish Council in identifying and addressing local priorities.

Essential Skills and Attributes:
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Proficiency in financial management and record-keeping.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Familiarity with local government procedures and responsibilities (training can be provided).
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Details and Remuneration:
• Hours: 17 hrs pcm
• Salary: £13.50 per hour
• Location: Home-based with occasional attendance in Witton le Wear Community Centre.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the well-being of a thriving rural community. Prior experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential, as training will be available for the right candidate.
