Local councils in our area are changing.

Right now, some council services in Oxfordshire are split across different councils, like roads and planning, which can make it harder to know who to contact.

Local government reorganisation is about making services work better together.

In 2028, the current councils in our area will be replace with one, two or three new councils. Whichever option the government chooses for Oxfordshire in the coming weeks, residents will benefit from clearer access, more joined-up services and a simpler experience when contacting your local council.

Councils across Oxfordshire and West Berkshire are working together to prepare for changes to how local government is organised in the future.

The government is expected to announce its decision in July, following a consultation earlier this year on proposals for one, two or three new councils to replace the current councils in 2028.

While we don’t yet know the outcome, councils are planning ahead so that:
✅ Services continue without disruption.
✅ Communities are supported through any changes.
✅ Things become simpler for residents in the long term.

Whatever happens, the aim is to make services easier to access and reduce duplication so more money can be reinvested where it matters most. We will keep everyone updated as the process moves forward.

💡 Have an idea that could make a difference in your community?

West Oxfordshire District Council has approved plans for a new crowdfunding programme in partnership with Crowdfunder UK, helping local groups and residents bring community ideas to life.

The new platform will make it easier to launch projects and build funding momentum with no project hosting costs for community groups.

The programme will launch later this year. We'll be sharing more information about how it works and how to get involved in the coming months, so keep an eye on our channels.
