Rachel Nolan has been selected as the preferred candidate for Chief Constable of Essex Police, following a rigorous appointment process. With more than 27 years of service, Rachel has progressed through every rank within Essex Police and is currently Deputy Chief Constable.

Subject to a confirmation hearing, she will take on the role at a time of both opportunity and challenge for policing. Rachel said she is thrilled and deeply proud and is committed to working with communities and partners to deliver high-quality policing.

PFCC Roger Hirst said: “Rachel was the outstanding candidate in the selection process and brings extensive operational and leadership experience, having served at every rank within Essex Police and has worked at a national level. She brings a clear vision for the future of policing in Essex, and a detailed knowledge of how to deliver it."

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, has today published a letter on public confidence in policing.

In the letter, Mr Hirst sets out his expectations of policing in Essex and the assurances he has received regarding Essex Police policies and training on professionalism and culture.

Within the letter, Mr Hirst states:

"There can be no two-tier policing in this county. Policing in Essex must be conducted impartially at all times: everyone is equal before the law."

The letter also reiterates Mr Hirst's position that policing decisions must be based on facts, evidence and the law, and his commitment to holding the Chief Constable to account for maintaining the high standards the people of Essex rightly expect and deserve from their police service.

A new replacement knife bin for the Brentwood Borough was installed last week outside Brentwood Police Station.
The knife bins help to safely take thousands of knives off our Essex Streets each year. Just one of the ways the V&V Partnership is tackling knife crime and bringing knife crime down. Police Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex
