Our first day back in the garden this year was white with snow, and frozen solid ❄️❄️❄️ Since then, there has been so much happening from mulching borders and pruning roses, to repairing gates and glasshouses, removing a huge fig with a vintage two-handled saw, and harvesting oranges from our veteran orange trees. Winter is such a busy time in the garden, at least that keeps us warm!

We propagated the fig before we removed the parent tree, and will plant the offspring in a pit lined with slabs and rubble to restrict it's growth and encourage it to fruit. The parent tree was growing unrestricted, and grew so large each year it barely produced any fruit and was damaging the historic wall behind it! We will post more on this story as it progresses.

This Christmas we wanted to give something back to our local community here in Wisbech so we are asking for some edible festive food items that our elves can pass on to Wisbech Food Bank.
The team at the foodbank have given us a few suggestions for donations which includes the following:
- Selection boxes
- Christmas biscuits
- Chocolates
- Cake
- Non-alcoholic drinks
- Crisps
- Nuts

*Please don’t include mince pies as they do get rather a lot of those*

We are collecting donations until Tuesday 16 December, please press the gold doorbell in the porch when you arrive and we will come to greet you.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from everyone here at Peckover House & Gardens.

During his ten years with us, Penrose had a lovely life, was popular with visitors and a cherished member of the Peckover family. He will be missed by us all.
