It was a big day on The Meadows today! Thompson Tree Services donated a whole morning of their team's time to help us out and we achieved A LOT. The team removed all the fence posts from around the lawns (except for the eastern edge where we have a swale) and also created a huge hibernaculum (using leftover stone from our landscaping project and brash from the woods). Hibernacula provide habitat for insects, amphibians and reptiles, and considering a newt and a frog were sighted during its construction, hopefully it will be a welcome addition for our wildlife! This work would have taken our small staff and volunteer team an awfully long time to do manually, or would have had a considerable cost attached if contracted out, so we would like to say a big thank you to Thompsons.
Our volunteers did not rest on their laurels either, pulling bindweed, thistle and nettle in our meadow, clearing benches and battling the weird wet and warm weather. Thanks as ever to all of them.
