Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were a child? Maybe a superhero or a scientist? A vet or a vampire slayer? When you are little, the possibilities should feel endless. Published by Magic Cat Publishing, the Future Me series offers an empowering, informative and inclusive insight into different professions, with each book’s young hero imagining how their working life might look in the future.

Pitched at children age 2 plus, the chunky pages, clear text and colourful, inviting illustrations are a joy to read, with tiny details lending themselves to frequent rereading (this reviewer’s toddler has read Train Driver approximately 3 million times). Themes of resilience, empathy and teamwork run throughout the series, giving children positive role models free from outdated gender stereotypes. As well as being a fun leisure read, the inclusion of healthy habits and routines make the series ideal for PSHE topics.

The closing mantra of each book, ‘If you can see it, you can be it’ is incredibly powerful, as much a reminder for adults as it is an inspiration for children.

This series will soon be available in our EYFS collection and in our upcoming nursery topic boxes. Please contact us for more information.

Is your school library in need of a revamp? Whether you’re looking for a total overhaul or you just need a bit of advice, our team of experienced librarians can help!

ELS librarians Samantha and Sarah recently visited a primary school in Warrington to complete a full stock audit. While this much-loved non-fiction library was full of creative displays and beautiful storage spaces, the shelves needed a thorough edit, with old and dated books removed. Once stock gaps had been identified, Samantha arranged for new stock to be delivered, revitalising the collection!

What an incredible way to celebrate the 20th year of the Cheshire Schools’ Book Award📚

Thank you to all of the 29 schools who attended and brought over 400 pupils with you for a very special and fun packed day. It was fantastic to have the Main Theatre in Storyhouse be so full of such enthusiastic readers and book lovers✨

Thank you to all of the nominated authors for this year's awards, and congratulations again to the winners Polly Crosby and Josh Silver as well as to the runners-up Ravena Guron and Jenny Pearson 🥳 and of course a big congratulations to the winner of winners, Holly Jackson 🎉

Finally, thank you to everyone who helped to make this day possible - all the Cheshire West and Chester Libraries staff, the booksellers from Nantwich Bookshop and Coffee Lounge, all the teachers and school librarians, and especially to all the students who participated and voted. This award would be nothing without you. So thank you, thank you, thank you 😊

We hope each and every one of you who came along enjoyed the day as much as we did. Roll on CSBA27! 🙌🏻
