🎉🤩MOI Success! 🤩🎉

It’s been a busy time for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Development Executive, delivering development opportunities for both our cadets and CFAVs!

MOI Course for Cadets
We recently welcomed cadets from across the Wing to develop their Method of Instruction (MOI) skills. The course focused on giving cadets the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to plan and deliver effective instruction.

MOI Train the Trainer for CFAVs
Alongside this, we delivered a dedicated Train the Trainer course for CFAVs, equipping our staff with the skills and resources to teach MOI to cadets within their own squadrons.

This approach helps us build a sustainable pipeline of instructors across the Wing — developing our staff, empowering our cadets and sharing good practice.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the courses and, of course, to all of the cadets and CFAVs who gave up their time to develop themselves and others.

🏕️☀️HIOW DofE success!☀️🏕️

This weekend 40 cadets in 8 hiking groups explored the New Forest to compete their Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. 🏕️

The groups were extremely lucky to have beautiful (and not too hot) weather for it too!

Our cadets got on fabulously, enjoying the Forest, seeing the ponies and donkeys, and getting to know each other. 🐴🌲🌸

Some of our groups made “interesting” navigation decisions- which allowed them to see a little more of the Forest than intended… but they had fun doing so! 🧭

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a youth achievement program for people aged 14 to 24. It helps young individuals build life skills, serve their communities, and gain confidence through personal challenges - just like this weekend! 🏕️

Choose your track: master basic fieldcraft skills and air rifle training, or go all-in on L98 weapons handling. Either way, you’ll spend two days developing the foundations of Military Skills.

🪖🔥Exercise Sparrowhawk 2026 🔥🪖

Exercise Sparrowhawk is a Blue Fieldcraft Skills training day on Salisbury Plain Training Area.

Cadets from across Hampshire, and local units from Wiltshire undertook a full training package with qualified fieldcraft instructors. The cadets were trained in packing their field equipment, how to cook the contents of a 24hr Ration Pack, perform administration in the field (washing themselves and maintaining their clothing), understand the concepts of why things are seen, and constructed a basic 2-person shelter.

These basic skills give the cadets the foundation in basic fieldcraft and enables them to be self-sufficient in the field environment.

Huge well done to all the cadets for passing and of course, a massive thank you to all the staff for helping facilitate the day! 🤩👏

🤩🔥 NCO and DTCI success!!! 🔥🤩

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing organised Junior NCO, Senior NCO, and Drill Training Courses for Sector 4 at Aldershot Air Cadets.

The NCO courses support the development of cadet NCOs' skills and knowledge needed to be effective in their role. The Drill Training Course introduces the preferred method of instruction that cadets should use when teaching drill and assesses potential SNCO Staff Drill Instructors’ Course applicants.

A big thank you all the staff for facilitating the course and huge well done to all the cadets on your hard work 💪👏

🎉💪 Sunday at the JNCO/SNCO/DTCI course 💪🎉

Our cadets in Sector 4 progressed through their second day of the Wing Junior NCO, Senior NCO, and Drill Training Courses at Aldershot Air Cadets

For our Senior NCO students, we aim to introduce the SNCO roles and responsibilities and how these align to the day-to-day management of squadron business and getting things done; and advance knowledge in drill theory and communication.

A fantastic day of ongoing development, learning and consolidation 👏🤩

🥾🤩 DofE Success for HIOW Cadets!🏕️🚶

Over the Bank Holiday 27 cadets from HIOW braved the elements (and it seems all 4 seasons) across 4 days!

Completing both their silver and gold expeditions teams contended with horizontal rain 🌧️, walking through clouds ☁️, gusty wind 💨 and bright sunshine ☀️!

Getting to travel through the British Countryside at its best. The views (when we could see them) were amazing. ‘The DofE Officer even let us have an ice cream on top of the hill when we got there- increasing our morale and enjoyment 100%’ 🍦👌

Our gold teams got to experience taking down tents with ice coating the outside AND inside of their tents this morning! Quote from Gold DofE Exped participant Drew Ringrose 2515:
“I could have used an ice lolly as a hand warmer last night… and it would have helped” 🥶

Everyone is immensely proud of everything they’ve achieved- and they’ve earned the completion of their expeditions this weekend for sure!

Well done all!!!! 👏🎉💪
