🤩🎉NCO course success!🎉🤩

18 cadets from across HIOW wing joined together at Portsmouth Air Cadets - 1189 Squadron with experienced staff for a drill training course, JNCO course and an SNCO course.

Learning such topics as leadership, self discipline and teaching drill, they all worked hard and did a great job 🤩 Thank you as always to the staff for facilitating the courses! 👏

Our fantastic staff team are facilitating Air r***e training and shooting, L98 Initial Weapons Training as well as blue field craft. Here’s to a success weekend of learning and development for HIOW Cadets! 🎉

🚀 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Training Weekend 🚀

What a fantastic weekend of learning, development and teamwork across Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing! ✈️

Our cadets and staff took part in a packed programme of training, developing new skills, building confidence and working towards their next qualifications.

From developing leadership and communication skills, to learning how to deliver effective instruction and building essential cyber awareness, there was something for everyone!

A huge thank you to all of our staff instructors, volunteers and support teams who gave up their weekend to make the training possible. Your time, knowledge and enthusiasm make a huge difference to our cadets.

And, of course, well done to all the cadets who took part, your commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to learn are what make weekends like this such a success.

🎉🤩MOI Success! 🤩🎉

It’s been a busy time for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Development Executive, delivering development opportunities for both our cadets and CFAVs!

MOI Course for Cadets
We recently welcomed cadets from across the Wing to develop their Method of Instruction (MOI) skills. The course focused on giving cadets the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to plan and deliver effective instruction.

MOI Train the Trainer for CFAVs
Alongside this, we delivered a dedicated Train the Trainer course for CFAVs, equipping our staff with the skills and resources to teach MOI to cadets within their own squadrons.

This approach helps us build a sustainable pipeline of instructors across the Wing — developing our staff, empowering our cadets and sharing good practice.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the courses and, of course, to all of the cadets and CFAVs who gave up their time to develop themselves and others.

Become an FTI(R) and teach the blue syllabus to your cadets - if you already have fieldcraft fundamentals and instructional techniques knowledge, this is your next step.

We’re running the FTI(R) course in 2 parts. Part 1 is virtual on 16 September. Open to Staff and Cadets.

🏕️☀️HIOW DofE success!☀️🏕️

This weekend 40 cadets in 8 hiking groups explored the New Forest to compete their Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. 🏕️

The groups were extremely lucky to have beautiful (and not too hot) weather for it too!

Our cadets got on fabulously, enjoying the Forest, seeing the ponies and donkeys, and getting to know each other. 🐴🌲🌸

Some of our groups made “interesting” navigation decisions- which allowed them to see a little more of the Forest than intended… but they had fun doing so! 🧭

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a youth achievement program for people aged 14 to 24. It helps young individuals build life skills, serve their communities, and gain confidence through personal challenges - just like this weekend! 🏕️

Ready to get in the field and learn something real? Our October Military Skills Camp gives you two ways in.

Choose your track: master basic fieldcraft skills and air r***e training, or go all-in on L98 weapons handling. Either way, you’ll spend two days developing the foundations of Military Skills.

🪖🔥Exercise Sparrowhawk 2026 🔥🪖

Exercise Sparrowhawk is a Blue Fieldcraft Skills training day on Salisbury Plain Training Area.

Cadets from across Hampshire, and local units from Wiltshire undertook a full training package with qualified fieldcraft instructors. The cadets were trained in packing their field equipment, how to cook the contents of a 24hr Ration Pack, perform administration in the field (washing themselves and maintaining their clothing), understand the concepts of why things are seen, and constructed a basic 2-person shelter.

These basic skills give the cadets the foundation in basic fieldcraft and enables them to be self-sufficient in the field environment.

Huge well done to all the cadets for passing and of course, a massive thank you to all the staff for helping facilitate the day! 🤩👏
