🔥We’re supporting Chimney Fire Safety Week!

As the colder months approach, it’s important to make sure your chimney is safe and ready for use. 🏠🔥

A blocked or dirty chimney can turn a cosy fire into a serious fire risk. Get your chimney checked and swept before you start using it regularly this winter.

🧹 How often should it be swept?
• Smokeless fuels — at least once a year
• Bituminous coal — at least once a year
• Wood — twice a year
• Oil — once a year
• Gas — once a year

🔥 Stay safe when lighting your fire:
❌ Never use petrol, paraffin or other flammable liquids
❌ Don’t burn excessive paper or rubbish
❌ Don’t overload your fire with fuel
👀 Check your loft occasionally for signs of smoke escaping through cracks or defective brickwork/mortar.

A clean chimney is a safer chimney. 🧹🔥

Where does the hose lead to? 🚒👀

Yesterday evening, Wilton crew carried out a breathing apparatus basement drill inside the smokehouse at Salisbury Fire Station

Two BA teams navigated through dense cosmetic smoke, taking with them 52mm hose lines while searching for casualties. Both teams successfully located a casualty(dummy) and quickly brought them to safety.

Training like this is vital for maintaining the skills, teamwork and confidence needed to deal with challenging incidents and ultimately save lives.

🚒AUGUST 2026🚒

As expected, August was a busy month for the crew at Wilton, with the team attending multiple incidents, including the large wildfire in the New Forest.

Collectively, the Wilton crew worked more than 378 hours throughout the month, either attending incidents or providing essential fire cover to the local area through standby duties.

We would also like to thank the local communities and landowners who offered their support and provided refreshments to our crews while they were dealing with incidents in the hot weather. Your kindness and support were greatly appreciated.

🚒 Three more calls for the crew at Wilton yesterday

🧑‍🚒 10:18 — Vehicle Fire, A303 Chicklade
🧑‍🚒 16:40 — Fire in the Open, Whiteparish
🧑‍🚒 19:11 — Fire in the Open, South Newton

That’s three incidents attended in just over 9 hours, keeping the crew busy throughout the day.

Although we’ve had some rain and temperatures have eased, fires in the open remain a real risk. Please continue to take care when out and about.

🚒 We need you!

We didn’t quite manage to get the whole crew together for this photo — but even with a full team, we still need more firefighters at Wilton!

Throughout July, our fire appliance was available 78.60% of the time, attending incidents and providing vital fire cover to our local community.

We want to get that figure as close to 100% as possible, and you could help us make that happen!

Being an on-call firefighter can fit around your work and personal commitments, and your hours could make a real difference to our station and your community.

After two weeks in attendance, firefighters are now in a position to leave the scene of the New Forest wildfire off of the A31.

Two of our off-road vehicles will continue to support Forestry England with monitoring the area until later this evening when they will return to station.

With the A31 reopened, we have received a number of calls reporting what appears to be smoke. This is believed to be caused by dust and debris being picked up by the wind.

If you do see fire please dial 999 immediately.

Our firefighters, along with support teams from across the organisation, have worked tirelessly for the past fortnight, helped by our partner agencies and colleagues from other fire services, including national specialists.

Thank you again to the local residents for their patience and understanding with the disruption to their area, and we recognise the many kind offers of support received from members of the community. We must also thank the Rapid Relief Team who helped fuel our firefighters through the hot and tiresome conditions they were battling the fire in, by providing food and drink.

Although we’ve had a bit of much-needed rain in some areas, it is important we all continue to do our bit to help prevent damaging wildfires destroying our beloved countryside.

With a temporary ban on the sale of disposable barbecues in place, we ask that you pack a picnic, avoid lighting campfires or bonfires, fully extinguish smoking materials and take your litter home with you.

If you come across an outdoor fire, get to safety, dial 999 and provide a What3Words pinpoint so firefighters can quickly locate and access the fire to prevent it escalating.

If you see our vehicles out and about, and think they're looking a bit grubby, there's a very good reason - with most of our Service area under a hosepipe ban, we've cancelled routine vehicle washing until further notice.

Roadworthiness will of course be maintained, and we will continue to train as usual, just without spraying water.

Essential water usage at fires will continue, with the support of our water companies.

Wilton were mobilised alongside Cranborne Fire Station yesterday evening to a multi-vehicle RTC on the A354 dual carriageway near Martin.

Thankfully, on arrival crews found that no casualties were trapped. Working together, both crews made all vehicles safe and assisted in getting the carriageway reopened as quickly and safely as possible.

A great team effort from all involved. 👨‍🚒🚒
