🚒 Our Response to the Proposed Fire Station Merger 🚒

At last night's meeting of the Town Council, the Mayor of Wilton, Cllr Chris Harrison, gave the following statement on the proposed merger of Wilton Fire Station with Salisbury:

"As many of you will be aware, the Chief Fire Officer for the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service announced on 5th June that his professional advice regarding the proposed station closures has changed. Rather than an outright closure, the new recommendation is that Wilton Fire Station will merge with Salisbury Fire Station for an initial 12-month trial period.

While we note this development, we remain very unclear on the full practical and operational impacts of this proposed merger. It is vital that we understand exactly how a merger will work in reality, particularly how it will affect our local on-call crews and their ability to effectively serve our community.

Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to restate Wilton Town Council's continued and unwavering support for keeping Wilton Fire Station fully open and operational. We will continue to scrutinise these proposals and advocate strongly on behalf of our town to ensure that our emergency response times remain low and that the safety of our residents is never compromised."

🌷 D-Day Anniversary - Tomorrow🌷

On 6th June 1944, the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord took place during the Second World War.

Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day (after the military term), it is the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of France and the rest of Western Europe, and laid the foundations for the Allied victory on the Western Front.

Wilton House was requisitioned as the Southern Command headquarters for the area and found itself at the very centre of what was to be described as the ‘greatest organisational achievement of the war’.

We will be flying the Union Flag in the Market Square over the weekend to mark this anniversary.

At our cemetery, there are thirteen Commonwealth War Graves, commemorated by a plaque inside the gatehouse in remembrance of all those servicemen of Wilton who gave their lives for their country.
