Wigan & Angers Twinning Welcome to the Wigan and Angers Twinning page to stay up-date about everything going on the twinning

The twinning agreement between Wigan and Angers was signed in 1988 by David Caley and Jean Monnier, then Mayors of Wigan and Angers respectively. The friendship had actually started 10 years earlier when an English teacher from Angers and a French teacher from Wigan set up educational links between their colleges. Today, thanks to the twinning a lot of exchanges take place every year between busin

esses, schools, sports team, choirs, etc. In the process of this twinning agreement, both towns exchange every year an Ambassador who works during a year in his/her twin city to renew previous events and launch new ones in order to perpetuate relations between the two cities. The twinning offers opportunities for everyone and the Ambassador is here to help you benefit from this twinning.

International Kissing Day is here, so let’s talk about the most French 🇫🇷 of greetings: les bises!

You’d think a kiss on the cheek would be simple 😏… but no. In France, it’s a full-on regional sport. Some places do one, others two, some go wild with three, and a few brave souls do four.

In my region, it’s either two or four, never three, that would just be weird. And to make things even more fun, depending on where you are, you start on the left cheek… or the right. It’s basically a guessing game with faces 🤣.

So if you ever find yourself mid-bise and unsure what to do, just smile, lean in, and hope for the best. 😄

🇫🇷 La Drumcroon est désormais ouverte à The Turnpike Gallery à !

Inspirée de l’Artothèque du Repaire Urbain à et développé à la suite d’une visite d’une délégation culturelle en 2023, la Drumcroon fait revivre l’esprit du programme de prêt d’œuvres aux établissements scolaires de l’agglomération de dans les années 70. L’accent est mis sur les estampes et dessins d’artistes, dont beaucoup ont été restaurés et ré-encadrés.

Un nouvel espace en libre accès permet aux visiteurs, y compris les enseignants, de découvrir les œuvres disponibles au prêt scolaire. Bien qu’il ne représente qu’une partie de ce qui était autrefois accessible aux écoles de Wigan, ce projet ravive pleinement l’esprit novateur de la mission de Drumcroon :
👉 « Offrir à tous les jeunes, à leurs enseignants et aux communautés de l’agglomération un accès à la diversité et à la richesse des arts visuels. »

🇬🇧 The Drumcroon is now open at The Turnpike Gallery in !

Inspired by the Artothèque at Le RU - Repaire Urbain in and developed following a cultural delegation visit in 2023, the Drumcroon revives the spirit of the 1970s schools art loan scheme. Focusing on artists’ prints and drawings, many newly conserved and reframed, this initiative brings art back into schools.

A new open-access storage area at the gallery lets visitors, including teachers, explore works available for loan. Though just a glimpse of what Wigan schools once had, it proudly continues Drumcroon’s mission:
👉 “To give all young people, their teachers, and communities access to the range, breadth and variety of the visual arts.”
