Update from GMP re ebike incidents around the ward

Appley Bridge incident.
The Boathouse and heading out towards West Lancs is in the Lancashire Police area and they have dealt with this incident. GMP officers do not have access to West Lancs internal computer systems, (We have requested an update from colleagues in West Lancs.)

Issues around the Crooke Village area have been dealt with by our local police team. PCSO Lowe has been in the area recently to gain further information to help identify the riders of these illegal bikes that are causing the anti-social behaviour.

It is not known if the incidents are connected with the West Lancs incident, however efforts will continue in the area to increase our patrols around Crooke Village and the canal footpaths.

Any illegal e bikes in the area that are identified, will be seized using powers under the Road Traffic Act or The Police Reform Act, as appropriate

📅 Councillor surgeries are a drop-in at a set time and place where you can come and speak to your councillors.

📚 Paul and Vicky run the Shevington Library Surgery on Saturdays 10-11am.

🗣️ Please let a member of staff know when you arrive as we may be in conversation with another resident.

🛋️ There is a seating area inside the library where you can wait.

👮 PCSOs attend our surgeries wherever possible if availability allows.

📌 Councillors’ Ward Update

It’s been a busy week for us, with lots of things happening in the community and a busy time for casework too.

✅ On Monday Paul and Vicky attended a Labour meeting where we selected Cllr Nazia Rehman as the new Wigan Council leader — our first female council leader who has done brilliant things in her previous role as finance lead
✅ On Tuesday Vicky attended an online meeting with Grass Roots of Wigan - GRoW, discussing more funding events in local areas, potentially including Shevington
✅ On Wednesday Paul visited the Wigan & Leigh Hospice Shop, for their prostate cancer event which he supported using Brighter Borough funding
✅ On Thursday Paul saw Shevington High School Wigan’s Youth Travel Ambassadors welcome Dame Sarah Storey and the council to unveil plans for the proposed Puffin Crossing on Shevington Lane, which we have been working on alongside the pupils, staff and council officers
✅ On Friday Paul and Vicky joined the busy coffee morning at Shevington Methodist Church, which is on each week at 10.30am-12pm – Wigan Council’s Techmates are here every other week too if you need some help on your device
✅ We also paid a home visit to a resident who needed some help
✅ And today our councillor surgery was held in Shevington Library — you can visit us Saturdays 10-11am if you have any issues you would like to discuss

⬆️ On top of the above, we have reported issues such as potholes, fly-tipping, pavement sweeping, and re-surfacing requests – one of which on Park Hey Drive/The Nook is already in the pipeline
