A group of our Supported Internship and Pre-Supported Internship students have completed their 'Community Project' assignment in which they were tasked with researching charities in Wigan.

After deciding on The Brick, the students created posters to promote a collection initiative for the food bank, which were displayed around college.

And today, the group took the donations to the charity where they were greatly received. Well done everyone ๐Ÿ‘

Supporting Skills and Futures Awards Recap

๐Ÿ† Our final award of the night was the Outstanding Service Award, which is for an individual or organisation that has shown dedication and passion towards inclusion, equity and accessibility, the award recognises their ongoing commitment to supporting others.

The 2025 winner was Lynne Hamnett from Embrace Wigan and Leigh

Lynne hasnโ€™t just shown commitment over months or even a few years, she has given over 25 years of her life to this work. Throughout this time, she has stood beside people, championed their voices, and opened doors that were once firmly closed.

Lynne has inspired, challenged, and never stopped pushing for a world where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. But what truly sets her apart, is not just what she's done, but how she's done it โ€“ with warmth, relentless determination and an unwavering belief in people and their hidden potential.

Lynne has created something truly special in Wigan, by challenging assumptions, breaking down barriers and inspiring people to think differently about disability.
And even after all these years she is still going strong, still innovating, believing and making a difference.

Huge Congratulations to Lynne.

Supporting Skills and Futures Awards Recap

๐Ÿ† Cheerleader Award, an award for a parent, carer or family member who has supported their loved one to achieve their goals.

This year's winner was Vee Brookes.

From the initial home visit, it was clear that Vee would be advocates of the Preparing for Adulthood Life Coach Service. She was eager for her son to access the service and is extremely passionate about ensuring young people have the support required to reach their potential. Since then, Vee has promoted the service to numerous other families, engaged with everything offered to her and son, and created trusted relationships with the team.

Vee isn't afraid to highlight when things aren't working but equally recognises and challenges her own fears to enable her sons to try new things and develop their independence. Vee has empowered her son to develop skills in independent travel, both on public transport and most recently with utilising taxis. She has supported him to move to a new college and worked with his Life Coach to ensure the right level of support has been put in place.

Vee is most definitely a 'Cheerleader' but more than that she's a passionate advocate and enabler and with her ongoing support we know both her sons will go far!

๐Ÿ† Inclusive Employer Award. This award is for an employer who has shown dedication to inclusion and diversity throughout 2025.

The winner was Lansafe Ltd

Lansafe have been working with SSFT for jus 12 months and in that time they have hosted workplace tours, enabling young people to find out about different roles and, importantly, have a go at various tasks. They currently have a Supported Internship student on placement and have engaged in various awareness sessions delivered by the team.

Lansafe also provided links to numerous other businesses locally and advocate for diversity and inclusion throughout their networks across the Wigan Borough and beyond.

๐Ÿ† Supported Employment Client of the Year. This Award was for any of our Supported Employment clients who have shown dedication to their employment goals throughout 2025.

This year's winner was Aaron Bridge.

Aaron has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months. From having limited confidence and self belief to throwing himself into a variety of work experience placements.

Aaron has shown great resilience and commitment and successfully gained paid employment. Aaron now has newfound independence travelling to work and socialising, and itโ€™s been a pleasure to see the progression.

He built a great relationship with his Employment Coach and weโ€™re all proud of his achievements. Aaron continues to grow in his role and we wish him all the success in the future, as we continue to support with reviews and monitoring.

Supporting Skills and Futures Awards Recap

๐Ÿ† Supported Intern of the Year. This award is for any of the young people supported by our team as part of their pre-internship or Supported Internship.

This year's winner was Dylan Forshaw.

Dylan blossomed throughout his Supported Internship and it has been great to see him grow in confidence throughout the year.

Dylan got involved in all aspects of his placement, he attended training sessions, supported wider teams across Wigan Council and provided valuable admin support. Dylan was motivated to become more independent and completed independent travel training, he then took this one step further to learn new routes and incorporate more active travel to support his health and wellbeing.

The Trophy Room provided the awards that our winners took home, which really made the night special.

Three of our young people (Alfie, Jess and Destiny) provided musical entertainment as part of the evening.

Photography was provided by Paul, one of our clients.

And our friends, family and team all mucked in to ensure the event ran smoothly.
