The Air Cadets is a youth organisation sponsored by the Royal Air Force with over 40,000 cadets and staff from hundreds of units across the country. Cadets undertake hundreds of activities every year, mostly subsidised by the Royal Air Force and earn qualifications useful in both civilian and armed forces careers. Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life? Then welcome to the Air

Cadet Organisation (ACO). Better known as the 'Air Cadets', we’re a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 13 and 20 years. So, are you ready to take the first step towards all the opportunities and benefits that the air cadets can offer you? It's important to know that we're not a recruiting organisation for the Services (but it's great if you decide you want to join later on). We're not interested in anything but you and your potential, and will help you get the most from your experience as a cadet. Worried about fitting in? Equality is a central part of the Air Cadets’ ethic. The cadet experience is open to everyone, so whatever your nationality, background or ability, whether you're male or female, if you're between 12 and 17 years old you can join us. The maximum age for entry is 17 years old, therefore you can request to join us anytime between your 12th and 17th birthday. If you don't fit into that age group and still want to enjoy all of our activities and more, you could join as a volunteer.

So it’s been a busy couple of weeks at 1474!

Cpl Dickson took part in the Inter-Sqn Cross Country Competition and won the Senior Girls category! Well done and good luck at the upcoming Inter-Wing competition in a couple of weeks time!

We also had a visit from our Sector Commander Sqn Ldr Harris who had the great pleasure in promoting our OC from Flying Officer to Flight Lieutenant Hobson! Congratulations boss!!

Congratulations Sir!

Welcome to Essex Wing Air Cadets’s new Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Jones!

Wg Cmdr Jones had this to say about his time with our organisation.

“I started my RAF Air Cadet journey when I joined 106 (Orsett Hundred) Squadron as a cadet in 2007. In 2014 I finished my cadet career and become a Civilian Instructor. In July 2015 I was Commissioned as an officer at 106 (Orsett Hundred) Squadron.
In 2017 I was appointed as Officer Commanding 1474 (Wickford) Squadron, where I remained until I was appointed as a WSO in 2020. In 2021 I was appointed as East Sector Commander, then in 2022 I was appointed as Deputy Officer Commanding Essex Wing.

I am honoured and excited to undertake my new appointment as Officer Commanding Essex Wing, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of Essex Wing’s dedicate team of staff and cadets.”

We look forward to working with you, Sir. Congratulations on your new role.

Our very own Flt Sgt Guiver was presented with her Cadet Forces Medal at last week’s Essex Wing Uniform Staff Meeting by the Essex Wing President, Gp Capt Houghton RAF. Cadet Forces Medals are awarded to uniform staff for 12 years service to a cadet force. Well done FS Guiver!
