An urgent road closure has been put in place to allow Cumberland to carry out urgent carriageway repairs following a sinkhole.

This notice will be in force for a period not exceeding 5 days from 19th May 2026. It is expected that the Works will take 4 days

Location: U4323, Catherine Street, Whitehaven from its junction with Lowther Street, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approximately 170 metres, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Catherine Street, Lowther Street, Scotch Street, Irish Street, and Howgill Street and a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

VENUE CHANGE: Due to unforeseen circumstances the venue for the Annual Parish Meeting has been changed. It will now take place in the church hall of The United Reformed Church, James Street, Whitehaven at 6:00 pm on Thursday 14th May 2026. Refreshments will be served at 5:00pm. Members of the Public are all welcome.
