An urgent road closure has been put in place to allow Cumberland to carry out urgent carriageway patching.

This notice will be in force for a period not exceeding 5 days from 14th September 2026. It is expected that the Works will take 5 days

Location: U4292, St Georges Terrace, Bransty, Whitehaven from its junction with Bransty Road/ Countess Road, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approximately 200 metres, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

Alternative Route: There is no suitable alternative route for vehicles and a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

A temporary road closure has been put in place to allow BT to carry out utility works which are expected to commence 18th September 2026 and anticipated to take 5 days to complete.

Location: Windermere Road, Whitehaven, from a point approx. 70 metres south of its junction with Woodhouse Road, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 50m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Windermere Road, Fleswick Avenue and Woodhouse Road, and a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

🚧 Mirehouse Cycleway improvement works starting next week 🚧

We're set to begin a programme of improvements to the Mirehouse Cycleway in Whitehaven from Monday 3 August.

The works will include footway widening, resurfacing and drainage improvements at several locations along the route. The programme is expected to take around four weeks to complete and will be carried out in phases, starting near the Nisa store before moving to other sections of the cycleway.

We will aim to keep the route accessible wherever possible and provide alternative pedestrian routes where needed to help minimise disruption. Access will be maintained for the majority of the works.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out these improvements to help make the route safer and more accessible for everyone who walks, wheels and cycles.
