1030 Whitehaven Squadron, Air Training Corps

1030 Whitehaven Squadron, Air Training Corps The Air Training Corps (ATC), commonly known as the Air Cadets, is a cadet organisation for 13-20 year olds based in the United Kingdom.

The RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC), commonly known as the Air Cadets, is a cadet organisation based in the United Kingdom. It is a voluntary youth group which is part of the Air Cadet Organisation and the Royal Air Force (RAF). It is supported by the Ministry of Defence, with a regular RAF Officer, currently Air Commodore Barbara Cooper, serving as Commandant Air Cadets (Cmdt AC). The cadets and the major

ity of staff are civilians and, although a number of its members do go on to join the RAF or other services, the RAFAC is not set up as a recruiting organisation. The enrolment age for the Air Training Corps is 13 years and 3 months, however, cadets can join at the age of 13 and enter as Junior cadets (see junior cadet). When the cadet reaches the age of 18, they are appointed to the position of staff (previously instructor) cadet and are subjected to the same regulations as adult members of staff (including a duty of care responsibilities). Service as a cadet ends, at the latest, on the 20th birthday of the cadet, when they become eligible to apply for service as a Civilian Instructor (CI) or an adult NCO (non-commissioned officer)

The RAFAC has almost 60,000 members, aged between 13 to 20 years, within 1009 Squadrons. Its cadets are supported by a network of around 10,000 volunteer staff and around 5,000 civilian committee members.

A visit from Mark, Neil and Adam from Copeland Police yesterday on a wealth of topics around Policing in West Cumbria.

Our cadets absolutely loved you being here and despite the fun, there was a lot of serious life experience learning.

Thank you once again and you are always welcome at our Squadron.

Day 3, Half term camp
1030 and 2192 Squadrons
No trip to the West Midlands would be complete without a day at the RAF museum Cosford.
Today cadets gave presentations on:
1, The Ni**od
2, The Lightining
3, The Mig 21
4, The Focke Wulf 190

The camp was a huge success which would not have been possible without all the hard work from all the staff involved, but a special thanks goes to our camp OC, Fg Off Rebecca Jennings (RAFAC) and 2IC, FS Dawn Brown (RAFAC)

Day 2, Half term camp
1030 and 2192 Squadrons
A full day at the National Memorial Arboretum.
After attending the service of remembrance both squadrons laid wreaths on the main memorial.
Cadets then gave presentation on:
1, The Burma Railway memorial
2, The Normandy memorial
3, The Duke of Lancaster memorial
4, The Women's Royal Air Force memorial
5, The Guinea Pig Club memorial
6, The Shot at Dawn memorial
Cadets then had free time before returning to the barracks.
The staff were really proud of our cadets today as many members of the public wanted to stop and talk to the Cadets. And all commented on how smart we looked.
The evening was topped off by a trip to RAF Cosford and a film in the Astra Cinema.

Day 1, Half term camp.
1030 and 2192 squadrons.
A trip to RAF Shawbury to undertake hands on training in the Air Traffic Control School and the School of Battle Management.
We also had a trip to the fire station which based on such a hot day, was nice to get a little wet.
The evening consisted of a trip to No.28 (Shawbury) ATC Sqn courtesy of OC Flt Lt Moss (RAFAC) where cadets were treated to a talk by Sqn Ldr Ben Brown (RAF) from E Squadron, Officer Training at RAF Cranwell who gave a talk on his varied career to date.
Big thank you to Flt Lt Greig (RAF) for arranging the full day.

The Sqn took a trip to Wasdale Mountain Rescue this evening and was given a hands-on tour and demonstration of the important work done by Wasdale MRT. A big thank you to Sam and Rob (former cadet) for hosting us this evening, which was really appreciated.
