Amazon wishlist to help support the hub in any way https://amzn.eu/17S00RY "At the Veterans Hub our mission is to provide a bespoke and immediate service for veterans, their families, and those still serving, within the local community when they need it the most." The founder of this project mad

e the decision to form the Hub after being diagnosed with CPTSD in early 2017 following more than a decade of deployments; as a British Soldier and Private Contractor, to various countries in the Middle East & Northern Africa. Following several years of self-medication and minimal support from anyone else, he was encouraged by loved ones to seek out professional support after suffering a breakdown in his mental health. Even though he was lucky enough to find help through a local service, it was clear that due to the unprecedented number of veterans in the UK suffering from mental health and physical traumas, the mainstream charities were very quickly becoming overwhelmed and that those in crisis could often find themselves having unreasonably long waits to receive much needed assistance, and in the worst-case scenarios, even forgotten about. In addition to this, local health services were woefully underfunded and ill-equipped to deal with the unique problems that veterans and their families can be faced with. It was through these realizations that the idea of The Veterans Hub was formed and by 2018, a full-time project was opened in Weymouth, Dorset. By maintaining the core values of the British Armed Forces, the team at the Hub has created a unique place for veterans, and their families to go to in times of crisis, or just to be around other veterans, in a relaxed and supportive environment. Onsite there is a purpose-built gym, allotment area, private garden, second hand shop, community café, and multi-agency welfare office. All the above is free to access for veterans, their families, those still serving, and is accessible 6 days per week. Lastly, The Veterans Hub, above all things, brings together veterans within the local community in order that none of them are ever left behind or forgotten about, and it really is a place where people find friends they never knew they had.

A write up from Dorset Freemasonry for their Veterans Breakfast that took place on June 7th and an invite to the next one scheduled for Portland in July

Veterans’ Breakfast Club at Portland Sunday 7 June

This was our second Veterans’ Breakfast Club event at Portland Masonic Hall, as we continue expanding this initiative across the Province in line with UGLE’s aim for every Province to host a monthly Veterans’ Breakfast. The momentum is really building, and it’s fantastic to see the connections strengthening within our veterans’ community. Emergency services personnel are also warmly welcomed, recognising our shared experiences and service.

We were delighted to welcome Mark Stevenson, Royal Navy Veteran, who delivered a superb presentation on HMS Pickle, its history, its role at the Battle of Trafalgar, and how it carried the news of victory (and the death of Admiral Nelson) back to the Admiralty in London. Mark also explained the tradition of Trafalgar Night for Officers on 21 October, and Pickle Night for Senior Rates and NCOs on or around 6 November, marking the date the news reached London.

This second Portland breakfast saw many returning faces from the first event, and the atmosphere was once again outstanding, full of camaraderie, banter, and genuine connection. It was especially encouraging to see non‑Freemasons fully engaging, asking questions, and getting to know others.

We were also joined by several local veterans’ organisations, including the Royal Naval Associations and the Veterans Hub, with a shared commitment to continue working together for the benefit of the wider Dorset veterans’ community.

A brilliant morning all round and just the beginning of what we hope will become a long‑term, county‑wide network of support, friendship, and shared service

Next Breakfast Sunday 5 July - The Falkland Island Conflict ‘Operating on Razors Edge’ from a Special Boat Squadron Operators Perspective (poster attached)

Each presentation costs just £8 and includes a full English breakfast and a hot drink.

Booking is essential — please email [email protected] to book and place your breakfast order, vegetarian options are available.

You don't have to be a freemason to attend, ladies and also blue light services are also welcome
