St Nicholas on the Hill

St Nicholas on the Hill Known as the old church on the hill, St Nicholas looks down over the village of Uphill from a cliff.

Known locally as the old church on the hill, St Nicholas looks down over the village of Uphill from a clifftop, and has become one of the most iconic sights of the area. Founded in 1080 the church remains open to visitors and still hosts a service each month, along with tower tours showcasing the majestic views across Somerset and the Bristol Channel, and annual events such as the Heritage Weekend

and 'Carols by Candlelight'. The church itself is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust, with the help and support of a group of local volunteers. Known as The Friends of St Nicholas, they open the church and fund raise to help preserve this beautiful building.

Edit - please note change. The church will not open on 19th April but will open on 26th April. Apologies for changes.EAS...

What a fabulous day for the visit of Years 5&6 from Old Mixon Primary School today. The pupils and their teachers visited us as part of their Christianity Unit of work and during the visit they worked hard identifying things on their activity sheets and then asking some extremely good questions. They really did give a good account of themselves. Well done everyone!

We were fortunate to have some very experienced ringers join us from a number of local towers for our Somerset Carols event on Saturday. They help us out on many an occasion in our iconic semi-ruined village church overlooking the Bristol Channel. On this occasion a significant number of people in the audience enjoyed being able to see church bell ringing live for the first time. A huge thank you to these ringers for spending their time on Saturday and so many special village events and thank you to these ringers audience who really showed their appreciation.
