Fighting fascism will go beyond events to the everyday conversations that can convince people from across backgrounds that shared interests of the majority can be fought for instead of letting the minority rulers divide us through hate.

Brighton and Hove Green Party statement on the Carnival Against Fascism:

On Saturday, Brighton & Hove showed what we all already knew: that our city is anti-fascist. That hate is not welcome here. Not now. Not ever.

Brighton & Hove Greens were proud to be a formal part of the Carnival Against Fascism coalition of groups that came together in advance of Saturday. We’re prouder still of the thousands who turned up and stood firm when it mattered most, bringing together all parts of our city and our struggle - the people, businesses, and communities who make Brighton & Hove what it is.

Serious questions must be asked of why the police turned their aggression on peaceful counter-protestors while repeatedly trying to force a path for fascists who were completely outnumbered. Our members saw or were subjected first hand to pepper spray, riot tactics, police violence and intimidation. The police chose to escalate rather than resolve the situation, by refusing countless opportunities to funnel the fascists back in the station and send them home.

In spite of this, Brighton & Hove stood firm once again. But the fight against fascism must be won on all fronts - not only on the streets or in elections, but with every conversation, every single day. We must stand for a better, hopeful alternative, and we'll continue to do just that - to fight for environmental, racial, economic and social justice, and to build a better world for all.

Great on Maidstone Borough Council 🌱💚

Cllr Richard Conyard moved from the Lib Dems to the Greens & Cllr Vanessa Jones has moved from independent to Green. The changes do not affect our effective coalition with the Lib Dems.

Cllr Vanessa Jones said, ‘The Greens at MBC have supported me since I was a newly elected Independent Councillor in 2023. Over the years, it has become clear that my core values and those of the Green Party are the same. I care deeply about protecting our environment and supporting inclusive, welcoming communities. Division and hatred must be stopped, and I feel the Green Party are the best placed to do that which is why I have decided to join the Greens. “Hope not Hate” must prevail.’

On World Bee Day the external environment is very much emphasised but our internal environment is just as important.

Please look out for the signs in loved ones, colleagues, and those in your community. People suffer in silence, but awareness of mental health is the key to breaking through that barrier and getting people the support they need 💚🧠💚
