Glorious weather and a splash of colour provided by the beautiful bright yellow woad (Isatis tinctoria) plant growing on site just before the village. This should provide a bumper crop of seed for more experimental archaeology in the future.

Woad plant was commonly used by the Anglo Saxons to provide a blue dye for colouring their garments, just like this one made here, by one of our team
