LOCAL PLAN: UPDATE ON WEST MERSEA TOWN COUNCIL REPRESENTATIONS
A one to one meeting with Colchester City Council planners took place on 15th April to continue presenting the Island’s key evidence-based concerns regarding the emerging Local Plan.

The Council reiterated issues previously set out in a letter of 13th March (available on the WMTC website under Local Plan, link below), including:
• Flooding impacts affecting access and exit via the B1025
• Urgent requirement for a comprehensive traffic and highways survey, in relation to the Strood and surrounding area
• Significant increase in vehicle movements along Dawes Lane and the deteriorating condition of the road
• Need for full consideration of Marine Conservation Zone protections and cumulative wastewater impacts
• Absence of data for Mersea Island Surgery in the Plan
• Concerns regarding the capacity of the Water Recycling Centre to accommodate cumulative development without environmental harm
• The importance of applying the Neighbourhood Plan to future Caravan Park development

West Mersea Town Council will continue constructively with the City Council to seek that the Local Plan reflects the West Mersea’s environmental constraints, infrastructure limitations, and community priorities.

HEALTHWATCH ESSEX CARERS VOICES SURVEY

Healthwatch Essex have launched a survey for people who are providing care and support for family, friends or other individuals in their lives.

Essex County Council are gathering feedback from carers across the county to find out what is working well and not so well in order to influence improvements to the support provided for carers.

Breaks for unpaid carers (often called respite or short breaks) are planned periods of time away from daily caregiving responsibilities, designed to support the carer's health, wellbeing, and personal life. These can range from a few hours for shopping to longer holidays, allowing for rest and maintaining social connections.

A break can include respite/holiday, sitting services, day support, or short-notice help to attend appointments. The survey is divided into 2 parts; for those who have taken a break, and those who haven't and/or are unsure how to access them.
