📄 A survey has been launched to find out which areas matter most to the public when it comes to improving safety in the city centre.

Operation Reclaim is a collaborative multi-agency project to solve the biggest problems affecting Nottingham City Centre including youth ASB, drug dealing, aggressive begging, rough sleeping, weapon-carrying, illegal e-bikes and retail crime.

🏙️ Whether you live in the city centre or just visiting to work or meet up with friends, we want to hear from you to make sure we are putting our resources into the areas causing you the biggest concerns.

⏰ The survey only takes a few minutes to fill out, but must be completed by 19 June.

We’re currently seeing an increase in calls about general noise, such as loud music, garden gatherings, or neighbour disturbances. While we understand these situations can be frustrating, many noise concerns are not police matters and are usually best dealt with by your local council.

Your local council’s environmental health team has the powers to assess and take action where needed.

There are some circumstances where police involvement may be necessary, such as if noise is linked to anti-social behaviour in a public place, or if there is evidence of crime or an immediate risk to safety.

By contacting the right service first, you can help ensure your issue is resolved more quickly and keep the 101 and 999 lines free for those who need them most.

👉 For more information on nuisance noise and what to do, visit: https://orlo.uk/v1lZr

🔎 Find your local council page here: https://orlo.uk/uQUdI

📞 Always call 999 in an emergency, where there is a threat to life or crime in progress.

Thank you for your understanding.

What is Operation Reclaim?

We’re using a proven approach called Clear, Hold, Build to create lasting change in Nottingham City Centre:
✔️ Clear: Targeting those involved in serious and organised crime
✔️ Hold: Increased patrols and visible policing to keep areas safe
✔️ Build: Working with communities and partners to create long-term improvements

This isn’t just about enforcement, but about working together to build stronger, safer communities.

📝 Your opinions are vital. Our survey gives you the opportunity to have your say on the issues affecting your community.

Emergency services have issued a warning about the dangers of swimming in open water after more than 100 people attended one beauty spot over the bank holiday weekend.

Our officers were called to Holme Pierrepont, in Rushcliffe, on Monday (25 May) following reports groups were jumping into the water.

There were also additional reports of people entering the River Trent from both sides of the water close to the Weir Fields Recreation Ground, Beeston Rylands.

Advice was given by our neighbourhood officers who attended the scene on Monday and both locations will be monitored over the coming days.

Almost half of accidental drownings happen in the warmer months and often involve people who take a spur-of-the-moment decision to enter the water.

Dangers posed by open water can include very cold temperatures, even in summer months, strong underwater currents, unexpected water depths and other hazards such as debris, weeds, pumps and mechanical equipment.

Inspector Tim Cuthbert, neighbourhood inspector for Rushcliffe, said: "It’s going to remain very warm and sunny this week and people will obviously want to be out and about enjoying the start of summer.

"People will want to be keeping cool but jumping into open water puts yourself and other people's lives at risk.

“The Trent and other rivers and canals around Nottinghamshire may look incredibly enticing but you won’t know the dangers that lurk beneath the surface.

“There are no lifeguards, you don’t know how deep it is, or what’s in the water.

“You could get tangled up in the weeds, land on a discarded shopping trolley, and hurt yourself.

“Even with the hot weather, the water could still be cold causing you to go into cold water shock.

“No matter how strong of a swimmer you believe you are, or if your mates are jumping in, or you’re following a trend on TikTok and egging each other on – remember the dangers.

"I'd also urge people not to be a bystander, if you see anyone putting themselves at risk, tell them they could get seriously hurt.

“Please enjoy the good weather but don’t go jumping or swimming in open water, it’s really not worth the risk.”

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager, Natasha Neale, added: “We would reiterate the safety advice from our colleagues in Policing.

“If you see someone in difficulty in the water, phone 999 and ask for the fire service.

"Give an accurate location using what3words or landmarks and instruct the person to float on their back. Never enter the water yourself.”

☕🚓 Great to attend the Police Beat Surgery this afternoon at Starbucks in Compton Acres and meet with PCSO Jodie Turner, and local residents. 😊

These community engagement sessions are such an important opportunity for residents to raise concerns, ask questions, share information, and strengthen links with our local neighbourhood policing team 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️🏡

It was fantastic to speak directly with residents about local issues affecting Compton Acres and the wider community, and to hear their thoughts and ideas. Listening to residents and working together is key to keeping our neighbourhoods safe, welcoming, and connected 🤝💙

A big thank you to the West Bridgford Police Team for continuing to engage so positively with the community 👏🚔

We are urging the public to take extra precautions following an increase in bank card fraud.

It comes after a number of bank cards were reported stolen from vehicles in Mansfield, Beeston, Sutton-in-Ashfield and West Bridgford.

After offenders took the bank cards, they then attempted and, in some cases, succeeded in using them to make purchases.

One victim reported nearly £200 of fraudulent transactions coming through within two hours of his card going missing.

We are encouraging drivers to take preventative measures to secure their vehicles and protect their belongings.

Detective Sergeant Sally Collins, of our fraud team, said: "Many thieves are opportunists who will take any chance they get to break into your vehicle.

“We know that some steps we’re reminding people of may seem trivial, but they can make a huge difference.

“Ensuring you lock your vehicle, take any valuables with you, and park in a well-lit area all help reduce the risk of being a victim.

“Make sure to report any suspicious behaviour you may witness and get in contact with us if you are targeted.”

The force’s fraud team have released the following advice for victims if they discover their bank card is stolen:

• Notify your bank immediately and freeze or report your card as stolen

• Report it to the police on 101 and then Report Fraud at 0300 123 2040 if the card has been used

• Secure your accounts and change your online banking passwords immediately

• Review your bank statement to spot any transactions you did not authorise

• Review your credit report to ensure no fraudulent applications were made in your name
