💛 Help with the cost of childcare

Imagine what childcare support could do for your family.

From 15 and 30 hours, to tax-free and Universal Credit childcare, there is a wide range of offers that parents may be eligible for.

Visit the links in the comment section to find local childcare providers in Nottinghamshire and see what you could be entitled to.

📆 Remember!

❗The deadline to apply for a code for September’s term is Monday 31 August.

❗Speak to your chosen childcare provider to see if they can offer you a place for your child.

Please note: To continue receiving the government support, you will need to reconfirm your details every three months on your GOV UK account.

⚠️ Stay safe around open water.

Lakes, rivers and reservoirs can look tempting on a hot day, but entering open water can be deadly.

Why? Well:
• Even on a hot day, the water can be extremely cold and cause cold water shock.
• There may be unexpected currents which can be fatal, even if you are a strong swimmer
• You might not be able to see dangerous obstacles beneath the surface, such as machinery, which can trap or injure you.

If you're thinking about cooling off in open water, remember, it's not worth the risk.

🚧 Highways update 🚧
The Pothole Pro machines are out on the streets and making a difference. This one was at Ousebridge Drive in Carlton today, and is in the middle of a large street-long repair.

Their benefits include:
☑️ Fixing a typical pothole rapidly, helping to clear backlogs more quickly, and ensuring that roads are closed for shorter periods of time.
☑️ Reducing repair costs, with permanent, longer‑lasting fixes meaning fewer repeat visits.
☑️ Cutting, cropping, and cleaning in a single visit.

The Pothole Pro machines have been leased from Dawsongroup via a procurement and tendering process carried out by Via.

See which roads are being repaired near you at the Notts Highways website. The link is in the comments 🔽

⚠️🔋 Never bin your batteries!

Loose batteries and batteries hidden in our electricals can cause fires in lorries and recycling centres 🔥

How exactly do these fires start?

1️⃣ The binned battery or electrical item is tipped from your bin into the lorry with the rest of your household waste or recycling.
2️⃣ The lorry's powerful 'compacting blade' compresses the rubbish together in the back of the vehicle so that it can fit more in.
3️⃣ If the battery gets crushed or damaged in this process, air and water can react together with the chemicals and batteries begin to spark which can start a fire!

Battery fires are particularly dangerous as the lithium compounds in them release their own oxygen. This intensifies the fire and makes it more difficult to extinguish.

❗ So remember, NEVER put batteries or electricals in your household waste or recycling bins. You can find battery recycling points at all Nottinghamshire recycling centres, as well as most supermarkets and shops 🔋♻️

❓ ‘My child goes to a faith school, aren’t you doing a review of your discretionary faith-based transport scheme?’

You may have heard that we’re asking for your views on the future of our discretionary faith-based transport scheme.

Our consultation is still open for you to have your say, so don’t forget that:

✅ No decisions have been made

❗This review does not affect our statutory home to school transport entitlements including extended rights for low-income families

📣 We welcome all views

🖥️ Information on the options being considered and what they mean can be found on our website.

🗓️ Any potential changes to the scheme wouldn’t be made until at least September 2027
