Donate to Hertfordshire Libraries

It’s now easy to donate online to the library service by visiting our website. We are often offered donations of money by users who wish to show their appreciation for the service. Now you can also support the library service by donating online. You don't have to donate. Hertfordshire Libraries are a universal and free service to the community. Your decision to d

onate is an entirely voluntary one. We ask that you donate only as much as you feel comfortable with. You may want to consider either a one-off payment or more frequently.

100% of each donation goes directly to Hertfordshire Libraries and is used to maintain and enhance our services. https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/librarydonations

Its World Blood Donor Day
Today serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
This year’s theme ‘Normalizing Voluntary Blood Donation’, focuses on encouraging people to donate blood regularly instead of waiting for emergencies. It promotes blood donation as a routine act of community support. Observed on June 14, 2026, the day highlights the need for consistent voluntary donors to ensure a stable blood supply. A slice of Hollywood in Welwyn Garden City…
Did you know? Welwyn had its own film industry in the 1930s with a studio opening in 1928 in Broadwater Road. The studios made around 80 films during its operation which went on until 1950. The most famous of these was Brighton Rock with Richard Attenborough. Extras would sometimes be needed, and local people were asked to help out. Film stars sometimes took breaks from filming in the Cherry Tree Restaurant. During the making of the World War One drama, I Was a Spy, the restaurant was full of actors wearing German uniforms. Visit Welwyn Garden City library local studies room to see our film studios display.
