Wells Fire Station

Wells Fire Station Wells Fire Station is a retained (on-call) fire station covering the city of Wells in Somerset. The Watch Manager has overall responsibility for the station.

Wells Fire Station is located on Burcott Road and covers the City of Wells and surrounding villages in the Mendip District Council area. It covers an area of approximately 144 square kilometres and a population of over 23,000 people. The station ground includes several council wards including; Knowle, Nedge, Rodney & Priddy, Wells Central, St Cuthbert, and St Thomas. The fire station has two firef

ighting appliances and an off-road vehicle (L4P). The station is crewed by on-call staff working a retained duty system with an establishment level of 20 personnel made up of one Watch Manager, four Crew Managers and 16 firefighters. The staff also identify the community safety activities required to prevent fires, deaths, and injuries in fires. The area is home to a range of risks that is predominantly rural but includes risks associated with the local road network, the Mendip Hills, Wookey Hole Caves, and the surrounding Somerset Levels. Other significant risks include the historic city of Wells itself. Wells firefighters live and work within five minutes of the station. Each person carries a pager and these are alerted via main control when a 999 call comes in.

If you see fire engines up by the bishops palace tonight, please don’t worry, it’s just part of our training regime.

We are training by lifting water from an open source and using the moat to achieve this.

All water used will be returned to the moat.

Using off site training allows us to practice in a more real life scenario and provides invaluable experience for crews

We’ll be there from 7pm until 9pm.

🚨 A Big Thank You to Serious Stages, Wells! 🚨

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Serious Stages, Wells for building and generously donating the gain entry door to our fire station. This incredible addition is more than just a door—it’s a vital training aid that allows our team to practice real-world entry techniques in a safe, controlled environment.

Having a dedicated training aid like this helps our firefighters hone skills, improve safety, and build confidence during emergency situations. Every drill with this door makes us better prepared to protect our community.

Thank you again to Serious Stages and the support of your staff Shane Webb!!

As your fire and rescue service, it is important that we fully understand the risks across Devon and Somerset, so that we can provide an effective emergency response and reduce the risk where possible.

Risks in our communities and how we plan to manage those risks to make people safer where they live, work and visit can be found in our Community Risk Management Plan, shortened to CRMP.

To help us understand the current and future risks our communities face we are asking for you to share your views and local knowledge by taking part in this short survey.

We are starting to develop our new Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) which will run from April 2022 until 2027. Find out how you can get involved in our plans.

Do you or someone you know use emollient creams? 🧴

These moisturisers are commonly used for dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis - but many people don’t realise they can also be highly flammable.

The oils in these products can soak into clothing and bedding, leaving a residue that can’t be fully removed by washing. If it comes into contact with a flame - a candle, lighter, or lit cigarette 🚬 - it can ignite rapidly.

Emollient use is a major risk factor in fatal fires, especially for people who smoke, are aged 65 and over, or have limited mobility.

Help us raise awareness of our SAME4 campaign, by visiting our website in the comments below👇🏽

We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came out to support this year’s Wells Carnival. The atmosphere was incredible, and it was a pleasure to see so many friendly faces along the route.

Until next year — stay safe, Wells! 🔥❤️

We've launched our SAME4 campaign – raising awareness of the four key risk factors we see when investigating fatal fires in the home 🔥

'SAME' stands for:

S – Smoking - especially indoors or in bed 🚬
A – Age (65+) - those over 65 are at higher risk 👱🏼
M – Mobility - reduced mobility or mobility equipment blocking exit routes ♿
E – Emollient creams - medical skin creams, used for conditions like for eczema, that can build up on fabrics and ignite easily🧴

When two or more of these risks are present, the likelihood of someone having a serious fire increases significantly.

We’re calling upon caregivers, family members, friends of vulnerable people, and medical professionals to help raise awareness among communities across Devon and Somerset.

If you know someone who may be at increased risk, you can support them by sharing this message or helping them access a free Home Safety Visit.

Visit our campaign page on our website for further details. Link in the comments below 👇🏿

Wishing everyone who celebrates a fun and enjoyable Halloween ✨ 🐈‍⬛ 👻

Please remember to stay safe - make sure you can be seen, keep costumes away from open flames, and use battery-powered tealights inside pumpkins.

Also, take extra care on the roads and watch out for trick-or-treaters 👀
