πŸ† Wellington has just won two more awards! πŸ†

On Thursday 11th June, representatives from Transition Town Wellington and Rosie Walker from the Woodland Trust joined Wellington Town Council’s Open Spaces Manager Darren Hill to attend the inaugural CPRE Somerset: Love Your Countryside Awards. These new awards were created for the 100th anniversary of the charity to shine a light on inspiring projects that help protect and regenerate the environment.

Transition Town Wellington and Wellington Town Council (in partnership with The Woodland Trust) received awards in the Blue or Green Spaces category. The awards were in recognition of Fox’s Field and the Green Corridor Woodland Creation Scheme respectively. The Blue or Green Spaces category looked for projects that demonstrated community involvement, nature recovery, innovative and knowledge-based approaches, connectivity and access, addressing countryside challenges, and being future-focussed and flexible.

Judges were impressed with the high level of community involvement at Fox’s Field as well as the regular monitoring of species, allowing Transition Town Wellington to scientifically log the impact of their work.

For the Green Corridor Woodland Creation Scheme, judges noted the positive collaboration with the Woodland Trust and the detailed ecological research and site planning. They also praised the involvement of the local community and the many voluntary hours put in.

Congratulations and well done to everyone involved!

You may have noticed camaras being installed at the entrances to North Street and South Car Parks. Somerset Council has informed us that this is part of its Parking Review Project and they are being used to gather information as part of a car park occupancy survey.

They have advised that the cameras are automatic number plate recognition cameras and are for data collection purposes only.

The notice explaining this can be found here
