Multi-Activity Training Weekend at 378 (Mannock) Squadron

378 (Mannock) Squadron recently hosted a highly successful multi-activity training weekend, delivering a wide range of courses for cadets from across the Wing.

Over the course of the weekend, 40 cadets representing 10 squadrons took part in structured training, supported by 11 members of staff and qualified cadets. The courses delivered included:

Blue Fieldcraft – 9 cadets qualified
Youth First Aid – 7 cadets qualified
Advanced Voice Procedures (Radio) – 8 cadets qualified
Bronze Leadership – 11 cadets qualified

Each course provided valuable opportunities for cadets to develop practical skills, leadership ability, and confidence, contributing to their overall progression within the RAF Air Cadets.

The weekend proved to be an excellent success, with a significant number of qualifications achieved and cadets gaining meaningful experience across multiple disciplines.

We extend our sincere thanks to all staff involved in both the planning and delivery of the weekend. Your dedication and professionalism ensured a high-quality training experience for all involved.

We would also like to express our appreciation to 378 (Mannock) Squadron for the use of their facilities, which played a key role in the success of the event.

Well done to all cadets who participated for their hard work and commitment throughout the weekend.

Friday evening saw the cadets help start off the annual 45th International Waendel Walk in Wellingborough with the Mayor leading the opening ceremony.

The Waendel Walk is a long standing International Walking event that brings together participants from across the UK and overseas to celebrate walking international friendships and community.

Today alongside other local organisations we held a Recruitment Stand by the Museum. It was great to meet people throughout the day and also talk about the opportunities available within the RAF Air Cadets and showcase some of the activities and experiences our cadets take part in.

Thank you to everyone who came along to speak to us and show their support.

Last night we said a heartfelt farewell to our two Flight Sergeants as they leave the squadron to begin their next chapter.

Since joining us in October 2021 they have shown dedication to everything they have undertaken. From attending numerous courses and camps to achieving their MOI qualification they have consistently demonstrated the highest standards expected of Senior Cadets.

Beyond their personal achievements both have contributed greatly to the squadron supporting events mentoring junior cadets and always stepping forward when help was needed. Their professionalism and willingness to help have made a lasting impression on us all. They have been outstanding role models within the squadron and their leadership and sense of humour will be greatly missed by staff and cadets alike.

We would like to thank them for all their hard work and commitment and wish them every success in their upcoming A-levels and as they move on to university. Whilst they may be leaving the squadron they will always remain a valued part of it and we look forward to seeing all they go on to achieve.

On Monday evening cadets from 858 Rushden Squadron - Royal Air Force Air Cadets and 1101 Kettering Sqn ATC joined 378 Mannock Squadron for an inspiring evening of aviation insight.

We were delighted to welcome Captain Andrew Harrison from Wizz Air UK based at London Luton Airport and Senior First Officer Adam Deacon from Virgin Atlantic based at London Heathrow Airport.

The visiting pilots delivered an engaging presentation about their respective airlines explaining how they were founded and how they have developed into the organisations they are today They also shared personal insights into their own career journeys outlining the different pathways into commercial aviation and the qualifications and training required to become a pilot

Cadets gained a valuable understanding of the day to day responsibilities of airline pilots as well as how different airport roles including Air Traffic Control work together to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Throughout the evening cadets asked a range of excellent questions helping to make the session both interactive and informative for everyone involved. Importantly they highlighted how the first five Pilot Competencies developed through the Air Cadets provide practical experience that is highly beneficial when applying for roles within aviation and equally valuable in a wide range of other careers.

It was an informative and inspiring evening and we would like to thank them both for taking the time out of their busy schedules to spend the evening with us.
