The Town Council is elected every four years with the last elections being in May 2015. The Chairman of the council is elected annually each May by fellow councillors. As well as the usual Chairman’s duties, the elected person also serves as Town Mayor. The Mayor’s Chain of Office carries a pendant illustrated with a rebus of the town’s name. The origins of the rebus are not certain but the pictur

e of a hare leaping over a barrel certainly dates from the 19th century. An old Norfolk term for a hare is a “Watt”, and a more ancient name for barrel is a “Tun”, hence Wat – ton! The rebus is also shown in the lower part of the Watton Town Sign, located in the High Street, which depicts the local ‘Babes In The Wood’ fable. Watton Town Council operates a monthly meeting structure of two Full Council meetings, one on the second Tuesday of the month and the other on the fourth. Meetings usually commence at 7pm and are held at Wayland Hall. All Council meetings are open to the public. Public Participation is on every agenda. During the fifteen minute window of public participation members of the public have an opportunity to address the Council. Watton Town Council is the owner-occupier of Wayland Hall which is situated in Middle Street just off the north side of the High Street. The Town Council Office is open between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday.

We’re really excited to share some news about the future of Watton’s market!

The market is relocating to The Crown Car Park, 25 High Street, Watton, IP25 6AB, just off the High Street, giving the Town Council a fantastic opportunity to create a new and improved market for the town.

Our big re-launch will be on September 16th, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to the markets new home and starting this next chapter together.

We already have a wide variety of stall who have confirmed their attendance! As members of the public please come and support this re-launch and ensure Watton's Market Charter continues for many years to come.

Watton Town Council has held the charter for the Wednesday weekly market since 1204 and is one of the town's assets - we're trying our hardest to not lose it!

The Lings team is taking over the high street this weekend! Both Lings Powersports and Lings Norfolk Triumph are heading down to the Watton Bike Weekend on Sunday, 30th August.

🚨 QUICK HEADS UP: Our showroom will be CLOSED on Sunday as normal - Don't worry though—you can still catch us!

Come find our stand right in the heart of the action on Watton High Street. We’ll have a stellar lineup of bikes on display, so swing by, say hello to the team, and enjoy an awesome day out with the local riding community.

Less than two weeks to go until the Bike Weekend returns to Watton! Saturday 29th event will be hosted by Watton Sports Centre and Sunday 30th will be bikes in the high street!
We will have Norfolk Blood Bikes, Bimble on the Bike Tours, Norfolk Advanced Motorcyclists, Wish Makers Motorcycle Association, and PFK Lings with us.
We can't wait to see what bikes join us this year!

LOVE YOUR MARKET TOWN GRANTS! Are you looking to organise an event or special project in our market town to help attract more visitors?

Local communities and businesses are invited to put forward creative projects that will increase footfall and length of visits.

Love Your Market Town (LYMT) funding offers between £1,000 and £5,000 to town councils, local groups and businesses for events, town trails, themed festivals and other activities that are designed to inspire people to visit and shop in their local towns.

The scheme is supported by Norfolk County Council and the district councils. Applicants have until 31 August to submit their initial ideas.

In the high street this year we'll be welcoming back Norfolk Blood Bikes, Bimble on the Bike Tours, Norfolk Advanced Motorcyclists, and The Copdock Classic Motorcycle Club - and we've got some new faces joining us this year too including Wish Makers Motorcycle Association, and PFK Ling Ltd!
