Hello Each,
CASTLES LAKE:
Just a heads up, swims 14 and 15 will be closed tomorrow Friday 8th May and into the weekend due to a tree down and work will take place over this period to remove it.
PLEASE DO NOT DUMP FISH OR AMPHIBIANS INTO OUR WATERS:
It might seem harmless—but releasing fish, frogs, or other aquatic animals into lakes and ponds can cause serious damage to the environment.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Non-native species can disrupt ecosystems and outcompete native wildlife
Diseases can spread quickly, harming fish populations habitats and water quality can be seriously affected
IT'S ALSO THE LAW:
Introducing fish or fish spawn into any water without proper authorisation is illegal. Without the correct permits, you must not:
Release fish or fish spawn into a fishery
Remove fish (unless using a rod and line under angling rules)
Be in possession of fish intended for release
In some cases, stocking fish also requires health checks and official approval, especially in connected waterways.
Penalties can be severe, with fines of up to £50,000 for illegal introductions.
If you can no longer care for aquatic animals, please seek responsible alternatives—never release them into the wild. Let’s work together to protect our waterways and the wildlife that depends on them.

Hello Each,
SPAWNING:
We have had several members asking about spawning in our Lakes. Following is a guide:

Most UK freshwater coarse fish spawn from March to June, with peak activity generally occurring in late spring (April/May) as water temperatures and daylight increase. While the Environment Agency's official river close season runs from 15 March to 15 June to protect spawning fish, actual spawning times can vary depending on weather conditions.Key Spawning Times by SpeciesCoarse Fish (Carp, Barbel, Chub, Roach, Bream): Primarily April–June.Pike & Perch: Early spawners, often starting in March or even late winter in warmer conditions.Salmonids (Salmon/Trout): Predominantly winter spawners (November–February), although Grayling spawn in spring.Amphibians (Frogs/Toads): December–May.Spawning is driven by environmental conditions rather than rigid dates, with warm, settled weather accelerating the process.

We hope this helps.
