A review of ‘This Book Made Me Think of You’ by Libby Page
From the back cover…
"You need books, Tilly. And I suspect you need them now more than ever.
I remember asking you once why you loved reading so much and you said that books can change lives. I am determined that these will change yours."
Our thoughts…
We meet Matilda (Tilly), who loves books and reading, although she doesn’t read for pleasure so much these days as her job as a non-fiction editor in a publishing firm seems to take up all her time.
One day, on her birthday to be precise, she gets a telephone call from Alfie Lane, the manager of Book Lane bookshop to say she has an order ready to collect. Confused as she hasn’t ordered anything, Alfie explains to Tilly that it is in fact a gift from her husband. This confuses a shocked Tilly even further, as her husband Joe passed away last year.
Alfie explains to Tilly that Joe had arranged this special order last year before his passing. Joe’s last gift to Tilly is a year of books! Each one carefully wrapped and containing a letter from Joe explaining his reasons for the monthly book selection.
We join Tilly as she tries to navigate life without Joe. We join her as she meets new people, visits new places, explores and learns new things, all inspired by the books Joe carefully chose for her.
What a lovely sentimental book, about life, friendship, love and second chances, with a fair few recommendations included that will be added to my ever growing ‘To be read’ pile.
