On Wednesday, we officially launched the new catalogue for the Greville Family of Warwick Castle collection, and what better venue to host the event than Warwick Castle!

Record Office staff, along with wider Heritage and Culture Warwickshire colleagues and invited guests were able to view a selection of documents from the collection, and view the catalogue in all its glory.

This is the culmination of a massive 4 year project to catalogue, clean, and re-box a collection spanning 1303 boxes, and over 800 years of history!

You can view the catalogue now on Warwickshire's Past Unlocked, and the collection is available to view in our searchroom during Record Office opening hours.

Did you know that during the summer months, the Lord Leycester's original Deed of Incorporation is replaced with an identical replica?

The original document dates back to the late 16th century and established the Lord Leycester as we know it today. As one of the most important documents in our collection, it requires careful conservation to ensure it can be preserved for future generations.

During the warmer months, the original is returned to the Warwickshire County Record Office, where it can be stored in carefully controlled conditions, while a high-quality replica takes its place on display.

This small seasonal change helps protect a remarkable piece of Warwick's history while still allowing visitors to discover the story of the Lord Leycester and its foundation by Robert Dudley over 450 years ago.

Next time you visit, see if you can spot the replica on display and imagine the original document that first established our unique community all those centuries ago.

It was a busy day in the searchroom yesterday! Archive Assistant Jo W and Archivist Amanda produced a variety of documents of all shapes and sizes... and weights! Patient case notes and admission registers from the Central Hospital, Hatton collection can be quite heavy to carry, but thankfully, Jo had a trolley to hand!
