We have tried to design a museum which is of interest to all ages and we will do our best to ensure that you have the most enjoyable visit. Whether it is just you, your family or a larger group such as a Social Club or a School your visit will always go better if you know where and when you are going and what you hope to see. Individual and small group visits are welcome at any time during our opening hours but we are very happy to discuss your visit in advance should you wish to do so. Larger groups and schools should always discuss their visit with the Curator in advance so that we can be sure to meet your needs and requirements.

75 YEARS ON: THE 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars in Korea

Remembering the 8th Hussars who fought valiantly during the Korean War.

This year marks 75 years of the 8th Hussars in Korea and as part of Heritage Open Days 2026, we will be exploring their experiences and actions in this campaign.

The talk will draw on a fascinating range of material from the Museum archive and reserve collection. A selection of these original archival items will be on display during the evening, with further material featured in our temporary exhibition. We are especially pleased to welcome serving officers of The Queen's Royal Hussars, who will be leading the talk and using these sources to explore the experiences of the Regiment in Korea and the stories behind the surviving historical record.

'As gallant a soldier as ever drew sword’: Lieutenant and Adjutant Arthur Myers, 7th (or The Queen's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoon (Hussars)

The painting is of Sergeant-Major Arthur Myers, 7th (or The Queen's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, 1805.

Arthur Myers was promoted corporal in 1794, Sergeant in 1797 and Sergeant-Major in 1804.

Most unusually, he was then commissioned as Cornet in the same regiment in 1808. This commission was made at the request of his Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Hussey Vivian. Both Lieutenant-Colonel Vivian and the Colonel of the regiment, Lord Anglesey, valued merit very highly and were willing to reward it.

Myers served overseas with the regiment during the Peninsular War (1808-1814), including at Corunna in 1809. He served as Adjutant and was promoted Lieutenant in 1810. After being wounded and taken prisoner at Genappe on 17 June 1815, he was brutally killed by the French.

Today marks the 4th Anniversary of the passing of our late Queen.

The photo shows Air Marshal Sir John Eustace Arthur "Jack" Baldwin escorting Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II at the 100th Anniversary Balaklava Ball.

Air Marshal Sir John Baldwin was the Colonel of the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, which whom he commissioned into in 1911 before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps and then the Royal Air Force during the First World War.

The Guard is made up of men from the 4th Queen's Own, 8th King's Royal Irish, 11th (Prince Albert's Own) and the 13th Hussars.

Today we remember one of our Commanding Officers who was killed in action leading from the front: Lieutenant Colonel Hogg DSO 4th Queen's Own Hussars

Commissioned into the Regiment in 1896 and is photographed as a Captain in 1908 whist serving as the Adjutant.

Lt Col Hogg was killed in Action on the 2nd September 1914 only 14 days after the Regiment had landed in France.

1st September 1914: A & C Squadrons left to hold a mile front on a ridge in the forest, with orders to hold on until 12.30 p.m., the object of the Brigade to fill the gap between 1st and 2nd Corps.

The enemy attacked through the forest in great strength, and at 12.30 were in many places right up to the 4th Hussars line through the dense undergrowth. Colonel Hogg, who was standing up endeavouring to get C Squadron out of action, was badly wounded, and left in a house in Haramont with the Regimental Medical Officer, Captain Wetherell. They were both taken prisoner by the Germans that night, and Colonel Hogg died three days later of his wounds. He was buried in a cemetery in the town of Haramont.

Meanwhile the remainder of the Regiment re-joined the rest of the Brigade and marched to Thury, arriving there at 8 p.m. Major Howell assumed command with Major Darley, Second in Command, Captain Pragnll, A Squadron, Captain Blood B Squadron, Captain Gatacre C Squadron and Lieutenant McCallum joined for duty and was appointed galloper to the Commanding Officer.

The Western Front, 1914-18

The 3rd, 4th and 8th Hussars fought on the Western Front, in France, throughout the War.

In 1914 and 1918 they fought as cavalry using the speed of their horses to reach the scene of the action whether it be in retreat or advance.

In the intervening years, they frequently found themselves in the trenches or being held for the great breakthrough which never occurred.

Brew & Banter

We are delighted to announce the launch of Brew & Banter, a new monthly veterans’ meet-up at The Queen’s Royal Hussars Museum, in collaboration with Veterans Contact Point Warwick.

Our first Brew & Banter will take place on:

Tuesday 1 September 2026
10am–12pm at the The Queen’s Royal Hussars Museum

Join us for a relaxed morning with tea, coffee and refreshments, providing an opportunity for veterans from across the region to meet others, have a chat and enjoy access to the museum.

We are also very pleased to welcome Caroline, the new Warwick Hub Point of Contact for Veterans Contact Point.

Caroline will be able to introduce the fantastic work Veterans Contact Point is doing to support veterans and their families across Warwickshire, including through their Warwick Hub at Pageant House.

Veterans Contact Point provides free and confidential support for veterans and their families on a wide range of issues, including health and wellbeing, housing, employment and welfare.

🎯 Test your skills on our SA80 Rifle Simulator!

During the morning, veterans will also have the opportunity to use our SA80 Rifle Simulator, providing a safe and interactive environment to retest your marksmanship skills.

Brew & Banter is completely FREE to attend, and everyone is welcome. Whether you are a regular visitor to the museum, have never visited before, or simply fancy a brew and a chat with fellow veterans, we would love to see you.
Brew & Banter will continue monthly following our first session on 1 September.
