Future London Road - Stockton Heath

Future London Road - Stockton Heath I am Mark Dickson. Welcome all. I'm Mark Dickson - just a regular geezer and family man, and find it a privilege to live in the area.

This page is created to explore new ideas for the future of London Road in Stockton Heath, with the sustainability of the local trade, community, and visitors. Very lucky to have such a vibrant village on the doorstep and long may it continue. I admire every person putting themselves out there to open a shop, cafe, coffee place, restaurant, or venture - and doing their best to be of service to our

selves every day and hopefully make a living doing it. But, how do we keep it sustainable (whilst embracing change with technology, transport, busy lifestyles and logistics and battling increased costs) and enjoy it for the future? What can be done differently? How do we encourage a vibrant market place? Is the London Road now becoming a disadvantage in its current form? Just asking the question and I think as a community we can just make things happen..

Had a fab afternoon in the village, for food and a cheeky beverage (or two). How busy was it?!! places were buzzing! No room in some places for a seat. Fantastic to see. Again any questions or ideas please shout.Happy Sunday everyone, enjoy the rest of your evening.

What a great response so far thank you. With imagination and some 'oomph' we can make things happen. Or at least start the conversation. Delighted that there is enthusiasm for change (lots to go at / work out). Couple of things have been highlighted which the council can help us with in the immediacy.

Onwards and Upwards everyone.

Happy Friday - Mark

A genuine thank you to everyone following the page. Will organise something soon, thanks for asking. There are many exciting suggestions coming forward that have real potential (albeit it will take time) but through short-term, low-cost, and temporary interventions we can achieve goals which are about safety, walkways, parking, calming, accessibility, vibrancy, variety and a place for everyone to continue to enjoy. Let us know what you think.

Question to consider: Do you avoid going into the village at any time?

It's about a vision - what small things can be trialled for the benefit of everyone concerned and begin a genuine discussion about future proofing the area.

Have a good day everyone.

If you had the power, what is the one thing you would introduce, do more of or stop doing for the village if you could?

Question:
What do you like most about Stockton Heath Village? (With the London Road in mind).

Hello everyone, really appreciate the engagement and interest so far. It's great to have the conversation.

To get a sense of how we all experience the village - I'll post a short series of simple questions (context London Road/Walton Road) over the next few days.

Hopefully it keeps things easy and gives everyone a chance to have their say.

Happy Friday

Just to thank you for following the page - I will dump my brain for some of the ideas to mull over, I think having a small get together in the church hall perhaps would be good - but in essence (detail permitting):

If we can open the small stretch of the London Road away from traffic and instead to footfall (lets say from Mulberry & Red Lion down to the end of the Old Barber Shop) we can emulate somewhat the picture depicted on the banner of this page where we:

(i) encourage more local people into the village and developing a vibrant environment (ii) help uplift the local economy perhaps even assure a wider variety of shops and sustain those in place. We can (iii) encourage pop up markets, frontal bistros, engage other establishments further up London Road, (iv) community gatherings (imagine Christmas), and (v) importantly not cramming onto narrow pavements whilst dodging the traffic.

There are many case studies demonstrating up to 3000% increase in footfall in events such as this. There are 'how do I..' questions obviously - but there is potential to undertake on a part-time / Saturday basis as a starting point. To support, there are ideas for traffic flow, parking, takeout/deliveroo/ubereats and how that could work.

Happy for all and any thoughts - feel free to pass on, also asking the shop keepers, pub owners etc what they think just to get an idea of how to make it work for us all.
Thanks
