🏆 Charity Champion Award 🏆

Last week, we were delighted to present Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Whitecross, Warrington, with WHH Charity’s first Charity Champion Award, launched as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations.

The award, which featured as a category in North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust’s annual Thank You Awards, recognises individuals and organisations that go the extra mile to support patients, families and staff across the trust.

The pupils at Sacred Heart have made an incredible impact through their fundraising efforts, regular visits to Warrington Hospital’s Stroke Unit and Forget Me Not Unit, and by sharing songs, handmade cards and thoughtful messages with patients. They have also helped shine a spotlight on the charity’s work by appearing in videos that showcase the difference fundraising makes and inspire others to get involved.

A huge congratulations also goes to our highly commended finalists. Shaun Ryan of Protive Security & Surveillance Ltd has been a valued supporter since 2016, helping to raise vital funds and enhance experiences for patients and families across the trust. Laurence Barrow of Barrow Electrical Ltd has also demonstrated exceptional commitment since the Covid-19 pandemic, building a strong and lasting partnership that continues to make a positive difference for patients, families and staff 💙

Hospital services are continuing as normal at Warrington Hospital this weekend, but you may notice some temporary changes on site.

We are preparing for the delivery of a new modular building from Friday 12 June to Sunday 14 June. This will become a new ward, Ward A11, which will help us continue to care for patients while we carry out improvement works to other wards.

During this time:

• there may be disruption at the front of the hospital
• parking will be limited near A&E and the pharmacy
• some vehicles, including patient transport, will use a different entrance

If you are visiting, please allow extra time and follow on-site signs and staff guidance.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out this important work 💙

'The support from everyone has honestly been unbelievable.’

After completing two full marathons and pushing through pain to finish a third, Tom Dore has sadly had to pause his 7 marathons in 7 days challenge after suffering an Achilles injury during day three.

Despite being devastated by the setback, Tom showed incredible determination to keep going and complete the third marathon before seeking medical help. He has now been advised to rest and avoid exercise for the next six to eight weeks while he recovers.

Tom started this challenge to give back to Warrington Hospital’s neonatal unit after the team helped save the life of his daughter, Taiya, following complications at birth last year. Since launching the fundraiser, the support from the community has been nothing short of amazing, with donations now reaching more than £8,000.

Thank you, Tom, for your courage, determination and commitment to supporting babies and families cared for on the neonatal unit. And thank you to everyone who has donated, sent messages of encouragement, turned up along the route or supported Tom along the way. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference.

We know this is only paused, not finished, and we’ll all be cheering Tom on when he’s ready to continue 💙

Make May Purple on the Stroke Ward at Warrington Hospital 💜

Throughout May, the national Make May Purple campaign helps raise awareness of stroke and the importance of recognising the signs early.

On B14, the Stroke Ward at Warrington Hospital, patients marked the month in a creative and meaningful way during their weekly art group. Together, they painted flowers in shades of purple, using colour and creativity to show support for stroke awareness.

Make May Purple also helps remind people to remember the FAST signs of stroke: Face, Arm, Speech and Time.

Find out more about stroke awareness on the Stroke Association website.
