Congratulations to everyone who took part in The Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat!

Well done to all the children who signed up, read books, collected rewards and joined in with library activities this summer. If you haven't quite finished yet, there's still time to complete your Challenge. Just visit your local library.

The Summer Reading Challenge website is available all year round, with activities, book recommendations and reading fun. Don't forget to try the Book Sorter, a great way for children to discover new books recommended by other children.

Have you been into the library recently to see our repurposed tubular bells? They're going down a storm with our young visitors. There's so much noisy fun to be had!

June Palmer, manager at Wantage Library tells us:
"When old copper pipes were removed during the installation of our new Air Source Heat Pump, I saw the chance to turn them into something creative rather than throw them away."

Darnells, the contractors, happily cut the pipes down to different lengths and June's brother James Baldwin, a builder, built a frame to hang them from.

The tubular bells have since become a popular feature at children's events, encouraging creativity, exploration and a love of making music.
