Walton Coastguard Rescue Team

Walton Coastguard Rescue Team Coastguard Search & Rescue team. What is the Coastguard Rescue Service and what does it do ?

The volunteer Coastguard Rescue Service provides the UK’s coastal search and rescue capability and as part of Her Majesty’s Coastguard it can operate separately or jointly with other emergency services and volunteer rescue organisations. It consists of teams of volunteers (Coastguard Rescue Teams), drawn from the local community, which are fully trained and equipped to carry out search and rescue

operations around the coast of the UK. As a volunteer in one of our Coastguard Rescue Teams, you will play a vital role in helping the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, through Her Majesty’s Coastguard, achieve its vision of being a world-class organisation that is committed to preventing loss of life, improving maritime safety, and protecting the marine environment. Members of the Coastguard Rescue Service are called Coastguard Rescue Officers and membership of the Coastguard Rescue Service is entirely voluntary. Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers can be called out by the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) at any time of the day or night, in all weathers, to respond to those in trouble or missing, to seek confirmation or further information of a report, or to participate in a joint response to an emergency

Here are the main things that the Coastguard Rescue Service does:

Carries out rescues of those trapped or injured on cliffs or in mud and provides a limited water rescue capability;
Carries out searches for missing persons often in conjunction with the Police;
Carries out coastal and inshore surveillance and intelligence gathering on behalf of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC);
Provides emergency mobile communications including relay and remote radio site operation;
Provides incident response and on-scene co-ordination as required by the MRCC;
Reports the presence of pollution and other hazardous objects on the shore to the MRCC;
Carries out duties as required by the Receiver of Wreck;
Assists local authorities and the other emergency services when requested in relation to counter pollution, flood relief, missing person searches and other emergencies;
Carries out accident prevention and safety education activities and specially targeted prevention initiatives;

💙 World Mental Health Day 2025 💙

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we just wanted to take a moment to remind our community it’s okay to not be okay and you’re not alone.

Life by the water can be tough and isolating at times and that goes for all of us volunteers, fishers, yachties and families alike. The important thing is to look out for one another, on and off the water.

Check in with your mates, have that chat, or lend an ear. You never know how much it might help someone who’s struggling. 💬

It is important that everyone has access to resources to help manage these challenges and a valuable tool that is available is the Coastguard Agency’s Wellbeing at sea tool, it provides practical advice and guidance to organisations to monitor and support seafarers wellbeing.

We’re proud to serve a community that’s strong, caring, and always ready to help not just in emergencies, but every day 💙⚓

Today is Emergency Services Day, a day to thank all those who serve in our emergency services past and present.

There are almost 2 million people across the services who volunteer their time to protect and serve their communities, playing a critical role in keeping Britain safe.

As a team we would like to thank the Police, Ambulance service, Fire search and rescue service, RNLI and all our colleagues at HMCG. The commitment and teamwork makes a real difference to our community and to keeping everyone safe who visits the coast.

A special thank you to our own dedicated volunteers, the rescue officers on Walton and Clacton Coastguard Rescue Team Everyday you put others before yourselves to keep them safe and make sure our casualties go home safely. Every call, every training session, late night pages you drop everything to respond and keep our coastline and community together. Thank you for your courage, dedication and support 💙

Each year, coastguard rescue teams respond to an alarming number of incidents involving missing children at beaches around the UK.

With a beach safety wristband, HM Coastguard can easily contact parents and guardians to let them know their children have been found.

Simply, write your mobile phone number on your child's wristband so that you can be called and reunited if you get separated.

Beach safety wristbands are handed out at many beaches and can also be ordered free online from our web shop: https://f.mtr.cool/lchsphlalw

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🌊⛪ Sea Sunday Service 2025 ⛪🌊

This weekend, members of our Coastguard team were honoured to attend the Sea Sunday church service at All Saint’s Parish Church, a heartfelt tradition that pays tribute to all those who live, work, and serve at sea.

Sea Sunday is a time to reflect, give thanks, and remember the vital role of seafarers and maritime communities around the world. It was a privilege to join with others in prayer and fellowship, sharing stories, memories, and our deep connection to the sea.

Thank you to the church and everyone involved for the meaningful service.

🌊 Safety First! 🌊

Our team has been out along the coast checking life rings and updating the life ring boxes with grid references.

If someone gets into trouble near the water, these grid references are vital. They help emergency services pinpoint your location when you call 999 and ask for the Coastguard 🚁

Please take a moment next time you’re out to spot your nearest life ring and note the grid reference. It could help save a life.

🚨 Monthly Round-Up: June 🚨

It’s been a busy year so far, and June was no different. This month alone, the team responded to 35 taskings.

We worked closely with our flank teams, the RNLI, and other emergency services to ensure every casualty was brought to safety.

This month’s callouts included:

🛟 Offering safety advice to the public
🛟 Responding to reports of objects in the water
🛟 First aid casualty care incidents
🛟 Recovery of vessels and drifting dinghies
🛟 Supporting other emergency services with vessel recoveries

Beyond our operational duties, the team has been involved in a range of community and readiness activities:

⛱️ Community Events
We attended several local events organised by the community—a great opportunity to share important sea and water safety advice, and connect with the public. It’s always a pleasure to meet our local community face-to-face!

🚶‍♂️ Local Patrols
Regular patrols were carried out to maintain visibility and ensure we’re always ready to respond.

🧰 Equipment Checks
We conducted our monthly equipment inspections to confirm everything is fully functional. These checks are key to staying operationally ready and confident with our kit.

If you spot us while we’re out, come say hello!

📞 Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, you could save someone’s life!

🚨 Busy Day for Walton Coastguard Team 🚨

Yesterday was a hot and hectic day for our teams as we responded to 7 incidents along the coast. We worked closely with our colleagues from:

👥 Clacton Coastguard Rescue Team
🛥️ RNLI Clacton Lifeboat , RNLI Walton & Frinton Lifeboat & West Mersea Lifeboat Station - RNLI
🚓 Essex Police - Tendring District
🚑 East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust
🚁 HM Coastguard Helicopter 363

The incidents we attended were varied and challenging — including water rescues, casualty extractions, water related investigations, and vessels in difficulty.

As the warm weather continues and more people head to the coast, we’d like to remind everyone to:

⚠️ Respect the water
📱 If you or someone else is in trouble on the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.

This weekend is likely to be busy and conditions can change quickly. Please stay safe, look after each other, and enjoy the coast responsibly.

Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, you could save someone’s life!
