Recently I was in Approach Road, West Molesey, and spotted this planning notice. There is a proposal to demolish Wesley Lodge care home and replace it with 14 new houses. Having looked it up on the council's planning, the developer is Nicholas King New Homes Ltd and its for 7x 2-bed and 7x 3-bed properties with 18 parking spaces. The public can comment until 28th June by going to www.elmbridge.gov.uk/planning and searching application 2026/0393, with a decision due on 24th July.

Hi everyone, I will be meeting with a director from PA Housing on Friday. I intend to raise issues that have been flagged with me in the election, including the park off Beauchamp Road that could be so much nicer and the questionable service charge that is being levied against tenants for public spaces like this. If you have any specific issues with PA that you want me to raise, let me know here or message me.

New disabled parking bays and signs have cropped up in Down Street, West Molesey, but local residents smelled a rat. They asked me to make check with the council whether they were legitimate or placed there by someone else. I can confirm that the road markings are "unauthorised", as indeed are the signs, meaning they are fake and have no legal standing. The council says the signs are on private land and its for the owner to remove them (PA Housing possibly) and the marks on the road are not done in the proper material, so will likely fade reasonably fast. The legitimate bays are the first two as you come from Faraday Road by the way.

Last Friday I had the pleasure of visiting Esher CofE School with my neighbouring county councillor Andy Burton. We had jointly funded new playground equipment for the school through Surrey County Council's Your Fund Surrey scheme and were delighted to officially open it and meet the wonderful children and teachers. Year 6 had created their own market stalls with goods and activities, displaying brilliant creativity and entrepreneurship. My good wishes to the school, and I'm sure the new playground addition will gets lots of use.

HURST POOL. Sorry to report that the planned refurbishment has been delayed until the autumn. This is due to "contractual issues" between the council and the company who won the Hurst Pool tender. Elmbridge has parted ways with them and is in discussions with an alternative contractor, and in the meantime Hurst Pool will remain open throughout the summer with continued access to swimming, lessons and activities over the coming months. Recently I also met with the Leisure team and Cabinet Member for a briefing on the proposed Molesey splashpad. Plans are progressing, with the location likely to be next to the pool and the existing children's playground. There are issue to be worked through but the plan is for the Splashpad to be installed by Spring 2027. Photos are of the Weybridge splashpad which I had the honour of opening as Mayor.

A brilliant gathering in Weybridge on Saturday to open a garden outside the new library in memory of our dear colleague Charu Sood, whom we lost far too young nearly two years ago. Charu was a Weybridge councillor, a Deputy Mayor, and a true community champion, involved in cooking for the homeless, delivering Meals on Wheels, making PPE during Covid and raising funds for victims of domestic violence. Weybridge in Bloom, of which Charu was a founder member, created the garden and paid tribute on the day. I was also invited to say a few words alongside our new Mayor Judy Sarsby and Charu's eldest daughter. During the final days of her cancer Dr Ben Spencer MP paid tribute to Charu in Parliament as "the very epitome of a community champion" and so in my mayoral year I started the Charu Sood Community Champion Award to be given each year to a councillor who goes above and beyond for their residents. Cllr Janet Turner, with 30 years unstinting service, was our first winner, she had no inkling and it was a lovely moment. Some photos here from both occasions.

Molesey councillors met on Thursday to distribute Community Infrastructure Levy funds to local good causes (CIL is a tax paid by developers). We had £309,250 in the Molesey pot and 12 bids totalling £700,281. So there were inevitably going to have to be some compromises. Having interviewed all the applicants, the Board agreed the following awards.

£35,682 part funding to Surrey County Council to repair the towpath from Molesey Boat Club to the lock.
£35,682 to East Molesey Cricket Club for nets
£35,682 to Chandlers Field School towards their projects (overall £200k needed) including a sensory garden
£23k to St Peter's Church to replace the pews with seating and create a space that can be used by the community. Plus £18k towards new kitchen and toilets.
£19,062 to Hurst Park School for new equipment including an outdoor canopy
£23,554 to Momentum children's charity for new offices
£24,000 to 1st Molesey Scouts to safely remove asbestos panels from their hut
£17,800 to East Molesey Methodist Church for new paths, doors and cycle facilities
£35,682 to St Mary's Church towards their major project for a mezzanine level above the café
£16,322 to St Alban's School for new facilities and garden
£24,783 to St Paul's Church to replace their aging boiler.

This week I have given the go ahead for a "School Street" at Arran Way by Cranmere Primary School. It will be the first in Elmbridge. This is where a numberplate-reading camera is installed and only authorised vehicles are allowed in or out during the school pick up and drop off times. The idea is to deter school-run vehicles from using the car park reserved for Arran Way residents and outside of the proscribed times the road operates normally. Surrey County Council ran a consultation earlier this year which recorded a clear majority of 74% in favour of the School Street. Teaching staff and residents' carers, bin trucks etc will be exempt from fines.

Hi all, South Western Railway/Network Rail Wessex have been in touch to confirm they are starting work to repair and renew the canopies at Hampton Court Station on Monday 1st of June. Welcome, but many will say long overdue! Most of the work will be during the day but some works will be done overnight. The project will continue through to January 2027 with the station remaining open throughout. Work includes:
* Stripping the canopies of existing coverings.
* Strengthening and repairing structural supports.
* Painting the structure.
* Reroofing including new fascia and rainwater goods.
* Install new glazing.
Around 10-15 parking spaces will be out of operation, for project use. There may also be intermittent noise, including drilling, hammering and temporary lighting during evening and overnight works.

In case you missed it, Elmbridge Borough Council has admitted that more than 9,300 parking fines issued since 2020 have been found to be invalid due to a "procedural error". The council leadership has apologised and is opening a refund scheme in June for anyone affected. The tickets wrongly issued were during the hours of 8am and 9am, and 6pm and 7pm at certain borough car parks (not Molesey, but see the list in comments). If you think you are eligible you will be able to apply for your refund from June via the council website elmbridge.gov.uk or phone by calling 01372 474 474.
