NEW: The next Conservative government will tackle the pothole epidemic and get Britain moving again.

Our new National Pothole Patrol will be backed by £112.5 million to deploy hundreds of modern, specialist road-repair machines directly to councils, fixing potholes faster, at scale, and where they are worst.

We will also introduce a single national reporting platform, replacing the current mess of local websites so drivers can report potholes quickly and repairs can be targeted where they are needed most.

And it’s all fully funded through savings made in our £47bn savings plan.

Enough is enough. Our Pothole Patrol will fix roads faster, save drivers money, and help get Britain working again.

If you live in Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Shelly Newton has shared an update on the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill.

🎭 Harlequin Theatre Update

I am aware that the Green Party have issued a statement to BBC Surrey suggesting that Reigate and Banstead Council has not committed to a reopening date for the Harlequin Theatre and questioning whether this year’s pantomime will go ahead.

I want to address that directly.

The reason I have not announced a specific reopening date is very simple: we have not yet finalised the detailed design, confirmed the full scope of works, or formally appointed the main contractor.

It would be irresponsible to publish dates before those steps are complete.

If you were renovating your bathroom, you wouldn’t announce the exact start and finish dates before choosing the tiles, agreeing the design and appointing the contractor. The same principle applies here, just on a much larger and more complex scale.

What I can confirm is:

• The funding for the essential works remains in the approved capital programme.
• Detailed design work is progressing.
• We are moving forward with appointing a contractor under the agreed framework.
• Community access for local amateur groups is being protected within the operator discussions.

I understand how important the Harlequin is to residents, performers and volunteers. I am just as keen to see the doors open again.

However, I will not allow political pressure to lead to unrealistic promises. Residents deserve certainty based on signed contracts and agreed programmes.

My focus remains on reopening the theatre safely, lawfully and in a way that secures its long-term future.

As soon as key milestones are formally in place, I will share them.

Fly tipping is a blight on our communities and it's not nice.

Good to see Cllr Steve Bax, getting this pretty nasty fly tip cleared in West Molesey!

Avern Road: I was alerted to a large 'fly-tip' of household items at Carden Court which arrived overnight and was festering in the rain. It wasn't immediately clear whether responsibility sat with the council or PA Housing but I asked officers to get involved and offer PA the use of our fly-tip removals contractor to get it shifted. We also received some intel about the possible culprit. The latest update is that the waste has now been removed and not at the taxpayer's expense.

Conservative-run Reigate and Banstead is the only debt-free council in Surrey. Don’t risk a Lib Dem-Labour-Green coalition of chaos on May 7th - vote Conservative.

We think it's shocking that the Liberal Democrats in Elmbridge are withdrawing funding for six community centres and looking to scrap Meals on Wheels as these are key lifelines for residents.

If you live in Elmbridge, please sign the petition to keep our community centres open and keep Meals on Wheels.

Weybridge Library and centres at Walton, Molesey, Cobham, Claygate and Hersham will be affected.

Great to see Cllr Shelly Newton, Councillor James King, Lynne Fletcher for Banstead, Chipstead and Woodmansterne and the team out talking to residents in Walton-on-the-Hill!

Whatever the weather, your local Conservatives are out taking action to help you make your community an even better place to live!

Rain? Yes. Spirits dampened? Absolutely not.

A brilliant day out talking to residents with Councillor James King, Lynne Fletcher and Rachel. We braved the drizzle because we’re not made of paper and had some really great conversations along the way.

And obviously, it would have been wildly impolite not to round things off with a quick drink in The Chequers. Purely for community cohesion, of course 🍻

Great work from Marc Hanson - Dorking Rural! Unlike the Liberal Democrats, local Conservatives in Mole Valley are working hard to clean up litter from grass verges!

Out litter picking with my brilliant neighbours yesterday. Enormous amounts of waste on our local road verges. What possesses people to throw their waste out of their car windows? That said, the LibDem Mole Valley District Council decision to move from regular to reactive verge cleaning has contributed to the problem. Some people are more inclined to chuck their trash when they already see garbage on the verge.
