😮 Look at this lovely new display, curated by our collections volunteers: Carolyn and Joan!
Our collections volunteers work hard behind the scenes, even when the Museum is closed on a Thursday, to help catalogue, digitise and take care of all the objects in our collection.
Over 200 pieces of lace were photographed, catalogued and put onto our database by Carolyn and Joan and this display celebrates their fantastic achievement as well as some of the stunning pieces they found. The display can now be viewed in the Museum's Core Gallery on the second floor.

🏡 This serene pastel drawing shows Woolston Hall in Chigwell.
In 1740, the original Woolston Hall was owned by the Scott family. In 1930, it was sold to the Co-Op, who used the premises as their sport and social club. The house then underwent several changes, being used as a high class private members only club by Sean Connery and Bobby Moore in the 1970's, then housed three night clubs in the 1980's. The site is now used for private venue hire.

**NEXT TALK AT THE MUSEUM!**

Join us this Wednesday 10 June 2026 for what will be a fascinating talk by Ben Paites, Senior Collections and Learning Curator at Colchester Museums, on Roman Life in Colchester.

Roman Colchester — Camulodunum — was the first capital of Roman Britain: a place where imperial ambition, military might, and local identity collided to create one of the most vibrant early centres in Britannia.

Ben’s talk follows Colchester’s extraordinary transformation from an Iron Age stronghold of the Trinovantes into a thriving Roman city. Drawing on decades of archaeological discovery, he will explore how the arrival of the Roman army, the settlement of veteran soldiers, and the construction of monumental public buildings reshaped the landscape and proclaimed Rome’s power.

The talk runs 7–~8.30pm, with doors opening at 6.45pm.£7.00 per person, with light refreshments available.

You can book online here- https://www.ticketsource.com/efdmuseum, or by emailing us at [email protected] or phoning us at 01992 716882.
