💚 World Su***de Prevention Day – 10 September

We’re proud to share this important message and support efforts to raise awareness of su***de prevention across Essex.

Sometimes, simply asking someone how they are, listening without judgement, and letting them know you care can make a real difference. We encourage our residents to take a few minutes to learn more, reduce the stigma around talking about mental health, and look out for one another.

The free online su***de awareness training takes around 20 minutes and is available to anyone aged 16+.

Let’s Talk About Su***de Essex – free awareness training and support⁠

Epping Forest District Council is proud to be lighting its Civic Building in green on Thursday 10 September to mark World Su***de Prevention Day and show support for su***de prevention efforts across Essex.

Raise awareness, reduce stigma
The initiative comes as the latest figures reveal that 145 people died by suspected su***de across Greater Essex in 2025, with four in every five suspected su***des being men.

The Let’s Talk About Su***de Essex campaign aims to raise awareness of su***de prevention, reduce stigma, and encourage more people to have potentially life-saving conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

Residents are being encouraged to complete the free 20-minute online su***de awareness training available through the Let’s Talk About Su***de Essex website.

The training helps participants recognise the warning signs that someone may be struggling, gives them the confidence to start a conversation, and provides guidance on how to encourage people to seek appropriate support.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year that landmarks across Essex have been illuminated green in support of World Su***de Prevention Day.

The free online su***de awareness training takes around 20 minutes to complete and is open to anyone aged 16 and over.
