Willenhall’s annual Carnival brought the community together for a full day of entertainment, stalls and family activities, with residents turning out in good spirits despite the changeable weather!

There was a real sense of local pride throughout the day, and it was good to see so many people in attendance enjoying what has become a much-loved event in Willenhall’s calendar.

My thanks go to all those involved in organising and supporting the Carnival, particularly the local traders and volunteers whose commitment makes events like this possible year after year.

There was a fantastic atmosphere at the Bloxwich Royal British Legion's D-Day Community Fun Day, with a great turnout from local residents enjoying a day of remembrance, community and family activities at the All Saints Church grounds.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served during D-Day, while also bringing people together in the spirit of community that remains so important today.

My congratulations and thanks go to the Royal British Legion Bloxwich Branch, and everyone involved in organising the event. A memorable day and a fitting tribute to those we remember.

It was a pleasure to attend the Eid Party at Caldmore Community Garden with the Mayoress, and to see so many people coming together to celebrate.

My thanks go to the many organisations, volunteers and sponsors who helped make the day such a success. Their hard work and dedication brought people together, strengthened community ties and raised valuable funds for a worthy cause.

I was pleased to learn that the event raised more than £1,800 for Sudan Kidney Aid, supporting important work while providing a memorable day for all who attended.

As one of my chosen charities, I look forward to supporting Caldmore Village Festival and the excellent work they do for local people throughout the year.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Kath Phillips JP. Achieving twenty years of public service shows her longstanding loyalty to the borough of Walsall, particularly the Bloxwich area.

On behalf of all at Walsall Council, I’d like to extend our condolences to Kath’s loved ones at this incredibly sad time.

It is with great sadness that Walsall Council pays tribute to former Mayor of Walsall, Kath Phillips JP, who sadly passed away earlier this month.

Ms Phillips JP was first elected to Walsall Council in May 1998 as a Labour representative for Bloxwich East and served for 20 years before retiring in May 2018.

She served as Mayor in the 2016-2017 municipal year and during this time fundraised for St. Giles Hospice in Walsall. During her years of council service, she chaired the North Walsall Area Panel (2014) and held the role of vice-chair for Community Organisation, Leisure and Culture (2005).

Our thoughts are with Kath's family, friends and loved ones at this very sad time.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Keith Sears. Achieving fifty years of public service shows his longstanding loyalty to the borough of Walsall and his commitment to making a difference across our communities.

On behalf of all at Walsall Council, I’d like to extend our condolences to Keith’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

Walsall Council is deeply saddened by the passing of former Walsall Mayor, Keith Sears.

Mr Sears dedicated 50 years of service to the borough, marking this remarkable milestone in January 2026. First elected in 1975 to represent Aldridge North and Walsall Wood, he remained a committed champion for Walsall until his retirement earlier this month.

He served as Mayor in 1994–95 and held a number of important roles over the years, including Chair of the Licensing & Safety Committee, continuing to support council work right up to his retirement.

During his mayoral year, he also raised funds for causes close to his heart, including Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the chemotherapy unit at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Our thoughts are with Keith’s family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.

Following last night's annual Mayor-Making ceremony, it is a great honour to have been appointed Mayor of Walsall for 2026/27.

Public service has been at the heart of my career in policing, and I am proud to have the opportunity to represent our borough over the coming year. I look forward to meeting residents, supporting local organisations and businesses, and celebrating everything that makes Walsall such a special place.

I would also like to thank Louise Harrison for her dedication and service during her term of office.

My chosen charities for the year, which will benefit from the Mayor’s Appeal 2026-27, are Streetly Sports and Community Association, and Caldmore Village Festival Ltd.

As my Mayoral year comes to an end, I’ve been taking time to reflect on what has been an incredibly special 12 months. It has truly been a privilege to serve the borough as Mayor of Walsall.

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, experience countless memorable moments, and, most importantly, make friendships that I know will stay with me long after my term ends.

There have been so many highlights along the way. I was especially honoured to lead Walsall’s VE and VJ Day commemorations (and I’ve certainly had enough cream teas to last me a lifetime!). ☕

Some of the standout moments for me were undoubtedly the times spent on Walsall’s waterways and lakes. From proudly launching the Sister Dora litter-picking boat and saying, “May God bless her and all who sail in her,” to officially opening the canal live on the radio. Those occasions were incredibly special.

I’ll never forget setting off at 7am on a frosty morning aboard the Sister Dora barge for another litter-picking trip, complete with a little pirate pretending along the way, which brought so much joy and laughter. I also thoroughly enjoyed sailing with Mencap and the Rotary Club at Aldridge Marina - although that particular adventure did leave me with soaking wet trousers and shoes before rushing off to my next engagement at Walsall Library!

From opening the local hub in Bloxwich West, which has since become a fantastic space for the community, to meeting plenty of furry (and not so furry 🐍) friends along the way, every week brought something new, meaningful, and memorable.

A key focus of my year has been fundraising for three incredible charities: Stroke Association, The Local Hub (Bloxwich West), and local animal rescues. It has been inspiring to see first-hand the difference they make, and I’m proud to have supported their work during my time as Mayor. 💜

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me, supported me, and shared in this journey. These moments of community, laughter, kindness, and togetherness are what have made this year so unforgettable and such a celebration of the unique spirit of Walsall.

With my sincere thanks,
Louise Harrison - Mayor of Walsall 2025/26

A wonderful evening at the Grange Playhouse watching the Grange Players in their fantastic production of The Odd Couple — with a brilliant twist featuring an all-female cast!

It was truly a laugh a minute and such an enjoyable performance from a very talented cast.

My Consort and I have absolutely fallen in love with The Grange and all the amazing people involved in it. Thank you all for your warm hospitality and friendship throughout the year — we look forward to returning again soon! 🎭✨

It was a pleasure to welcome the Ladies Circle from Central Hall Methodist Church, to the Mayor’s Parlour today.

Around 12 ladies attended the visit, where they enjoyed learning about the history of the Mayor’s Parlour and the role and history of the Mayor within the Borough of Walsall. It was wonderful to share stories, traditions, and the importance of civic life in our community.

Thank you all for your warm company and interest during your visit. Wishing the Ladies Circle continued success in all they do within our community.
