Healthwatch Wirral has the legal power to visit local health and social care services to see how they work in practice. This is called Enter and View.
These visits help us listen to people’s experiences, highlight what services are doing well, and identify where improvements could be made.
We regularly publish our latest Enter and View reports on our website and share them with key partners, including health and social care providers, regulators, Wirral Council, Healthwatch England and NHS commissioners.
By sharing what local people tell us, we help make sure their voices are heard and used to improve health and social care services across Wirral.

The Urgent Community Response services have managed more than 62, 000 referrals for people across Cheshire & Merseyside , with their “No wrong Door” approach.

💙 Great news for our residents in Cheshire and Merseyside - more than 62,000 people in the last year received urgent care in their own homes, avoiding unnecessary trips to hospital and helping people stay independent for longer.

⏱️ Our Urgent Community Response (UCR) services have been providing assessment and treatment for patients with an urgent health or social care crisis, aiming to respond within two hours, in people's own homes.

🏡 The UCR service has a "No Wrong Door" approach, so patients can be referred in from ambulance services, GPs, community healthcare teams, care homes, social care professionals and more.

One patient who benefited from the service was an 86-year-old man living independently in supported accommodation in Chester. After a fall while boarding a minibus left him unable to stand, a 999 call was made, and he was referred to the Cheshire West UCR Response team.

Following assessment, clinicians determined he could be safely treated at home. He received a face-to-face visit within two hours, with observations and blood tests completed in his home. A GP reviewed the results and adjusted his antibiotic treatment the same day, while the team also tailored care to support his needle phobia.

The patient was transferred to the Hospital At Home service for ongoing monitoring and therapy aimed at reducing future falls risk. As a result, he avoided an ambulance journey and potential hospital admission, remaining well and recovering comfortably at home with support from his family. 💙
