Over recent months there has been some misunderstanding about the role of the Friends of Vale Park, so we wanted to provide some clarification.
The Friends group is made up entirely of volunteers who give their time to help maintain and
support Vale Park for the benefit of the wider community.
Our current activities are primarily focused on gardening, planting, and environmental improvement within the park.
We do not own, manage, or control Vale Park or the bandstand, and we do not have authority over what events or activities can take place there.
All events, activities, and organised gatherings within the park are subject to Wirral Council procedures, permissions, and relevant insurance requirements.
We like any other group or organiser, wishing to hold an event in the park must apply through the appropriate council channels and obtain the correct permissions and insurance cover.
Our own insurance policy only covers supervised gardening related activities and does not extend to community events or displays organised by us or any third parties. For that reason, we are unable to provide insurance cover or authorisation for external events.
This is not about preventing people from using or enjoying the park. We simply have a responsibility to ensure that everything is done safely, properly, and within the limits of what our volunteers and insurance arrangements allow.
We also want to make clear that anyone who wishes to create a separate group dedicated to organising and taking responsibility for events within Vale Park is more than welcome to do so.
The Friends of Vale Park remains committed to supporting and improving the park for everyone, and we welcome anyone who wishes to positively contribute to the community and work alongside the proper council processes that apply to us all.
Finally, we would ask people to remember that our group is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom have faced an incredibly difficult year personally.
